Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) is looking for an experienced Regional Director to head our programme in Latin America.

We have worked in Latin America since the 1980s and support partners, mainly people’s organisations, in their efforts to promote a just distribution of power and resources. This position is responsible for all programmes of Development and Humanitarian Cooperation (DHC) in the region, presently in Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. The position is located at the regional office in Quito, Ecuador. The regional team has 12 staff members and the total turnover is approx. 40 Mill. NOK.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • The overall responsibility and management of the NPA DHC programme and to lead the NPA Latin America Team
  • To provide leadership, advice and support to the programmes, and facilitate for synergy and cross-utilisation of resources between NPA programmes
  • To ensure that relevant strategies, policies, management systems and routines are in place, adhered to and further updated
  • The overall financial, logistical and human resource management according to NPA requirements
  • To ensure a good working relationship with national authorities, NPA partners, donors, international organisations and other relevant actors
  • To ensure that the regional team maintains a comprehensive understanding of the regional and country contexts, and closely monitor developments, in particular the political, humanitarian and security situation, and provide analysis and advice to NPA Head Office
  • The safety and security of NPA staff, assets and resources, in close coordinaton with NPA Head Office.

To be succesfull in this role you must have:

  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to achieve results through others
  • Relevant higher education
  • Experience as a successful upper level manager in a complex international organisation
  • Previous experience in a multi-national environment in Latin America
  • Experience with implementing strategies, plans and achieving and documenting results in complex development contexts
  • Good political intuition, solid understanding of political processes and ability to process sensitive information with discretion
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting partnership through working with local partner organisations, in particular people’s organisations and social movements
  • Understanding of different means for supporting organisational development
  • Experience in fundraising and donor relations
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and work under limited guidance and supervision
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Good team player skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural/multi-national setting
  • Good writing skills and proficiency in English and fluency in Spanish
  • Good computer skills
  • Strong health
