This position is based in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Moscow, under the OHCHR framework for cooperation with the Russian Federation. The incumbent will report directly to the National Officer, in close coordination with the Chief of Web Unit/Communications Section/ External Outreach Service of OHCHR, based in Geneva. Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Public Information Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

• Provides support to the on-going maintenance and development of the OHCHR website in Russian and related dissemination applications; responds to complex information requests and inquiries.
• Provides specialized assistance to officers in the production and delivery of information communications products and services.
• Manages, updates and further develops internal databases; updates Russian web site, to include drafting and editing content; assists in development and maintenance of Internet applications; generates a variety of standard and non-standard statistical and other reports from various databases.
• Creates, updates, deletes webpages in Russian within a Content Management System environment, using translated content from the English language website. Drafts, edits, designs and updates webpages and provides specialized assistance in the oversight and maintenance of the materials posted on the OHCHR website. Responds to inquiries on Web content.
• Monitors, collects and distributes source material as needed and provides back-up communications and web-related administrative support as needed and special assignments when requested.
• Researches, compiles and presents basic information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services by Moscow office.
• Using relevant computer software, creates designs in appropriate format for promotional and other material, e.g. brochures, presentational materials, announcements, video and audio cassette covers and catalogues, etc.; ensures that photos, graphics, etc. are appropriate and conform to UN standards for print materials.
• Ensures availability and appropriate packaging of products for distribution at special events, exhibits, conferences, media functions, etc.
• Monitors the performance of digital audio workstations and other computer-based editing systems with respect to proper digital file management; review entries, file storage, retention and deletion practices to ensure consistent application of basic guidelines; identifies problems/issues and liaises with appropriate personnel for their resolution.
• Identifies and prepares new material for inclusion in appropriate web pages by:
- researching various information sources for relevant material and cross-checking information with author offices as required;
- retrieving and downloading pertinent documentation and other information in requisite programming languages for Web format or inserting into database after determining appropriate categorization;
- preparing new pages, incorporating graphics as needed, using appropriate authoring tools and necessary programming languages;
- preparing and updating index of documents; posting documents on the OHCHR webpages in Russian; checking and testing for multiple browser support, etc.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of experience in public communication, international broadcasting or related area is required.

Experience in web related content management is desirable.

Experience in editing and translating documents (English/Russian) is desirable.

Experience working for an international organization is desirable. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English and Russian are required. Assessment

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules.
