This position is located in the United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) in Brussels, within the Information Centres Service (ICS), Strategic Communications Division (SCD), Department of Global Communications (DGC). UNRIC Brussels is part of the global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs), which are the principal source of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located. Overall, UNICs are responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating UN information materials to a local audience in local language; engaging local and regional partners; and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the people it serves. UNRIC provides information services to Andorra, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, the Holy See, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The incumbent is under the general supervision of the Director of UNRIC Brussels and reports directly to the Public Information Officer for the Benelux and EU Desk. Responsibilities

Within delegated authority and depending on location, the Public Information Assistant may be responsible for the following duties:
• Assists in the production and editing of UNRIC’s video/film projects, radio programmes or website projects; tracks all production material; assists in the production of scripts, , selects and catalogues sound and visual materials for inclusion in productions, and obtains requisite clearances and copyrights; coordinates scheduling of internal production facilities; directs studio recordings and/or evaluates audio quality of recordings for inclusion in programmes for the target area of Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, or in cooperation with the EU institutions.
• Monitors the performance of digital platforms, including UNRIC webpages and social media channels and provides statistics on other communications activities.
• Supports the coordination and organization of briefings, events and campaigns.
• Identifies and prepares new material for the UNRIC website and social media accounts by: researching various information sources for relevant material and cross-checking information with author offices as required; retrieving and downloading pertinent documentation and other information in requisite programming languages for Web format; preparing new pages, incorporating graphics as needed, using appropriate authoring tools and necessary programming languages; posting documents on the UNRIC website and ensuring the appropriate location; checking and testing for multiple browser support, etc.
• Provides general office support; responds to complex information requests and inquiries of UNRIC Brussels; keeps abreast of current affairs in the Benelux & EU, processes, drafts and finalizes correspondence and other communications documents; sets up and maintains files/records, organizes meetings, monitors deadlines, etc.
• Coordinates administrative services, including preparing, monitoring and processing various requisitions, email requests , etc.
• Provides specialized assistance to Public Information Officer in the production and delivery of information communications products and services.
• Manages, updates and further develops internal databases; updates website and social media accounts, to include drafting and editing content; assists in design, development and maintenance of Internet applications; generates a variety of standard and non-standard statistical and other reports from various databases.
• Researches, compiles and presents basic information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services.
• Serves as photographic assistant by producing digital imaging, producing photo prints, and serving as back-up photographer
• Coordinates media engagement in close cooperation with Public Information Officer of UNRIC’s important events in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands or of joint events between UN and EU entities; liaises with news and publications agencies, UN photographers, etc. to provide advance notice of, and information on, upcoming meetings, briefings and special events and to ascertain coverage requirements; coordinates technical arrangements and organizes and allocates space for visiting news, photo, TV and film personnel; evaluates and processes applications for UN security clearances/accreditations.
• Participates in the planning and coordination of major exhibits in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands or with EU institutions; liaises with relevant departments/agencies; drafts and edits reports, production schedules, press releases and related texts, and correspondence related to the planning and production of exhibits.
• Using relevant computer software, creates designs in appropriate format for promotional and other material, e.g. brochures, presentational materials, announcements, etc.; ensures that photos, graphics, etc. are appropriate and conform to UN standards for print materials.
• Ensures availability and appropriate packaging of products for distribution at special events, exhibits, conferences, media functions, etc.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of experience in public communication, international broadcasting or related area is required.

Experience in writing for the web and social media is required.

Experience in media engagement is required.

Experience in working with the media in Benelux and the EU is desirable.

Experience in organizing events and public information campaigns is desirable.

Experience in photography or videography is desirable. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English and French is required. Fluency in Dutch is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable. Assessment
