Do you want to play a key role in an organisation which stands up for children? Join us as a Public Affairs Adviser and play a critical role in building relationships with parliament and holding the government to account.

In our Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns department, we fight for children every single day. We drive political agendas at national and global levels. We integrate lobbying, policy, research and campaigning into one agile, powerful engine for change. We go the extra mile - and we don’t rest until the work is done.

As Public Affairs Adviser you will develop relationships with a core group of politicians, raising Save the Children’s profile in parliament and enhancing political awareness for our work to reduce the number of children growing up in poverty in the UK. You will provide political intelligence to inform our wider campaign strategies, alongside developing political influencing strategies for our UK campaigns. You will collaborate with colleagues to ensure that campaigning and advocacy are integrated, establishing and maintaining effective systems for tracking political engagement. In addition, you will:

  • Develop and deliver written and oral briefings to MPs, peers, government officials and other decision makers on key policies and campaigns
  • Work with policy and programmes colleagues to summarise and communicate complex data (technical, economic) and policy ideas to deliver tailored messaging for political audiences
  • Coordinate events including parliamentary events with key political stakeholders and Save the Children’s presence at the annual conferences of the major political parties.

To be successful you will be an excellent verbal and written communicator, with a track record of building relationships with Parliamentarians and other key stakeholders. You will have a good understanding of domestic social policy, as well as an interest in developing new ways to reducing child poverty and supporting children in the early years in the UK. Capable of applying influencing techniques to ensure that Save the Children stands out from the crowd, you will have significant experience of working to influence structures, processes and trends in the UK political system. Additionally, you will have:

  • Experience of developing effective working relationships with colleagues and working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Demonstrable excellence in organising events
  • Ability to plan work and meet deadlines when working under pressure on a number of projects
  • Ability to effectively manage and work within networks and coalitions for lobbying and advocacy purposes.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

If you share our belief in the power of children, join the fight. It takes relentless determination, creativity and a real commitment to real change. Because every child should be able to make their mark on their world, and help to build a better future. We look forward to hearing from you.
