Action for Education is an independent, grassroots organization founded in the UK and Greece in 2018. We develop and support projects that aim to remove the barriers to education for displaced communities.
The HUB’s programme focuses on 3 main services:
Language classes (English and German)
Digital literacy classes
Social work
Title: Project Coordinator
Location: Chios
Stipend: €550/month
Start date: ASAP

Minimum commitment: 3 months
Main responsibilities (including, but not limited to)
Organise and facilitate vocational activities in our project The HUB e.g. physical fitness activities, wellness events, arts and crafts, and others.
Support student registration procedures.
Manage and support the volunteer team with organising and facilitating activities and lessons in the centre.
Oversee daily operations of The HUB including maintaining learning resources, safety equipment, cleaning facilities etc.
Update volunteer schedules weekly.
Coordinate the purchase of new and necessary materials, or liaise with distribution actors on the island to receive donations of NFIs for students.
Financial management, making sure that activities and costs are documented and justified for present and future accountability.
Apartment management: collect volunteer rent, oversee the condition of apartments, ensure sufficient space for all volunteers.
Shared car management: check insurance is up-to-date, ensure all volunteers who drive have valid licenses and have signed the car-sharing policy, ensure the car is well-maintained.
Volunteer welfare: onboard new volunteers, participate in biweekly check-in with AFE volunteers.
Make sure AFE Chios policies are up-to-date and are both conveyed to and followed by all volunteers.
Be part of the global coordination team and in touch with coordinators across Greece and the Canary Islands. You will be involved in decision-making processes and the overall organisation’s efficiency, continuous improvement, and operations.
Your skills
Strong written and verbal English
Minimum age: 23
You are organised, efficient, and are happy to take the lead with resource and database management e.g updating spreadsheets, tracking supplies, purchasing supplies, updating policies.
You have experience working with displaced populations in emergency contexts, with a focus on education, human resources, and team management - ideally with prior experience working on the Greek islands or mainland.
You are excellent at motivating and encouraging students who are undergoing complex asylum processes and may be experiencing severe psychological stress and facing difficult life decisions.
You share our vision of a world in which everyone has equal chances to access and be successful in vocational and academic pathways.
You are strong at leading a diverse group of volunteers and creating an environment that promotes positive communication.
You are a team player who can also work independently.
You are comfortable in using basic computer programs like MS Office or GDrive and happy to learn the use of other programs
Other relevant skills
Working knowledge of one of the following languages: Arabic, Farsi, Somali, French, Lingala. Knowledge of more than one of these languages will be considered an asset. Proficiency in Greek will also be considered a strong asset.
A valid driving license and experience driving manual cars is an advantage

The position is initially for 3 months (with extension pending review). We offer an initial stipend of €550, a private room in a shared apartment, and a €200 travel bursary per quarter.
