Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.
In Egypt, WFP is committed to supporting the Government’s priorities toward the achievement of the SDGs. WFP’s current five-year Country Strategic Plan (CSP) is designed in a way to fully support Egypt’s vision 2030 and ensure food and nutrition security for all Egyptians, as enshrined in both the Constitution and the country’s commitment to the Global Sustainable Development Agenda.
As part of WFP Egypt CSP for 2023-2028, WFP is implementing it’s humanitarian response to refugees as well as resilience-building activities for refugees and host community members. Through its \"One Refugee Policy\" WFP targets vulnerable refugees irrespective of nationality with cash-based transfers to ensure they can meet their essential food needs throughout the year. WFP’s approach to food security is two-pronged; it first ensures access to basic food needs for vulnerable populations through immediate support, and secondly, it addresses long-term resilience building for future self-reliance.
The CSP focuses on five interrelated thematic areas:
• Support and complement the Government’s social protection programs
• Support the refugees and migrants through food assistance and resilience building
• Improve the nutritional status of Egyptians with a focus on Pregnant and Lactating Women and infants under two years of age;
• Support resilience of vulnerable smallholder farmers and Bedouin communities in Upper Egypt and frontier Governorates; and
• Provide capacity strengthening to the Government and support South-South cooperation between Egypt and neighbouring countries.
