This position is located in the Policy and Monitoring Branch, Division for Policy, Monitoring and Global Advocacy, Office of the Special Adviser on Africa. The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa is responsible for mobilising international cooperation in support of Agenda 2063 and coordinating UN system wide support for Agenda 2063. The incumbent will be under the general direction of the Director and the direct supervision of Chief. Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

-Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects, etc.; monitor and analyze programme/project development and implementation; review relevant documents and reports; identify problems and issues to be addressed and propose corrective actions; liaise with relevant parties; identify and track follow-up actions.
-Assist the Chief of Branch in monitoring and providing technical and policy advice on (1) the Agenda 2063; (2) the Regional Coordination Mechanism and its advocacy, communication and culture cluster; and (3) the Interdepartmental Task Force on African Affairs, on issues relating to governance, peace and security, in the context of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union's Agenda 2063 and its First Ten-Year Implementation Plan.
-Research, analyze and present information gathered from diverse sources for Office reports and publications.
-Assist in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
-Prepare various written outputs, e.g. talking points for senior officials, draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
- Provide substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, expert group meetings, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
-Provide substantive support to intergovernmental bodies in their deliberations on Africa, to include covering meetings, preparing notes for the file, etc., which contribute to the inputs to the reports of the Secretary-General.
-Participate in or lead field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc.
-Coordinate activities related to budget and funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
-Performs other duties as required. Competencies

Education

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in economics, business administration, management, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area is required.

Experience in Africa's development is desirable.

Experience in the Agenda 2063 or in other economic development programs for African countries is desirable.

Experience in the review of the implementation of commitments by African Governments and their development partners towards Africa's development is desirable.

Experience in intergovernmental processes is desirable. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage. Assessment
