Norwegian People’s Aid is seeking a Programme Coordinator for the Mine Action and Disarmament Programme in Iraq

Wars and armed conflicts come to an end; however, the remnants of war continue to impact millions of people for decades to follow. Mine Action and Disarmament's vision is a world where people and communities are safe, resilient and protected before, during and after armed conflict. Together with national authorities and other stakeholders, we are working to resolve problems faced by local communities caused by landmines and explosive remnants of war. Currently, NPA has more than 19 Mine Action Programmes ongoing in Africa, Asia, Latin America, South-East Europe and the Middle East.

Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) Mine Action and Disarmament has been present in Iraq since 1995 and currently has three operational clearance projects: in Southern Iraq, based in Basra (operations in Basra, Missan and Muthanna governorates); in Northern Iraq, based in Mosul (operations in Ninewa governorate); in Central Iraq, based in Ramadi (operations in Anbar). The Programme is managed from its Mine Action and Disarmament country office located in Baghdad.

NPA Iraq has (or is in the process of establishing) nine Non-technical survey (NTS) teams, two EORE teams, 31 manual Multi-tasking teams (MTT), seven mechanical teams, three mine detection dog teams, and two seconded Quality Management teams responding to the CMR, improvised landmine/IED and other contamination throughout Iraq.

Do you have professional writing skills to a high standard, experience working with donor relations, proposal writing and reporting, and want to join our professional and committed global team?

In this position your main responsibilities will be:

Provide support for programme-related activities. This includes reporting, proposal writing and monitoring of project progress. You will also be tasked by the PM to conduct day-to-day administrative tasks to support the Senior Management Team with successful planning, implementation and monitoring of programme activities. To achieve this, you will coordinate and collate inputs from the SMT, Admin/HR, Finance, Logistics, Information Management and Operations departments as part of reporting and proposal writing. Draft key documents, monitor the implementation of, and compliance with, all donor requirements and act as the communication focal point for the programme.

To be successful in this role you must have:

  • Relevant higher education or equivalent qualifications (communications/media, project management, international development studies or business management)
  • Professional writing skills to a high standard
  • Proven ability to manage complex, time-sensitive activities and to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with donor relations including proposal writing and reporting
  • Previous experience with an INGO or UN agency
  • Communications skills (including photography, photo and video editing, social media management and graphic design)
  • Written and verbal proficiency in English
  • Good computer skills

We consider it an advantage if you also have:

  • Experience from Humanitarian Mine Action
  • Contextual knowledge
  • Understanding and working experience with national entities and partner organisations
  • Experience in project management
  • Ability to communicate effectively and network with local, provincial and national authorities and other INGO stakeholders
  • Arabic language skills

For all positions we are looking for people with the experience and ability to work independently, be proactive and make decisions as required. Good communication skills, cultural understanding, diplomacy and interpersonal skills is a prerequisite for being successful.

The position will be based in Baghdad and requires limited travels to field bases and in the area of operations.

Preferred starting date: 15 January 2021. If the successful candidate has a valid visa to Iraq, earlier start date may be offered, upon agreement.
