We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Program Officer for the Ethiopia’s Healthy Behaviors Activity. This position will be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Project Description:

The Ethiopia’s Healthy Behaviors Activity project implemented by FHI360 and funded by USAID will support the Ethiopia Government and a broader set of stakeholders to design, implement, and evaluate SBC strategies that, strengthen comprehensive health knowledge and skills, foster community support for health action, shift harmful social and gender norms, increase provider motivations and skills to provide client-centered services, and engender institutional commitment and capacity to lead this change.

Job Summary:

The Program Officer will support the management and execution of the Healthy Behaviors Activity. They will work with the Healthy Behaviors Activity Chief of Party and other staff to implement the project. Collects, compiles, and analyzes information relevant to programs. Provides administrative and project support, in addition to communication efforts related to program management and execution. Ensures compliance with internal and external regulations. Monitors budget for programs and develops monitoring system for reviewing project status. Ensures completion of the project while adhering to budget, scope, and schedule requirements. Develops/reviews work plans, prepares presentations, and supports other related program objectives and deliverables.

Accountabilities:

  • Provides support to program management such as coordination of activities, troubleshooting, updates work plans, administrative support and monitors program activities.
  • Ensures timely implementation of the Healthy Behaviors Activity, and monitors project activities against work plans. Tracks performance against Financial Cost Objective (FCO) ID, project timelines, budget, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Facilitates communication by answering implementing partner inquires and liaising with FHI 360 HQ, government officials, USAID, and other local, regional, and international stakeholders.
  • Reviews and contributes to work plans; provides support to programs by writing and/or reviewing reports on a quarterly basis.
  • Supports program teams administratively to provide high quality deliverables
  • Documents and shares project accomplishments, challenges, and lessons learned among internal and external partners through knowledge management (KM) products, for example, articles, blog entries and personal interest stories.
  • Facilitates the project event coordination and logistics.

    • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English, fluent in host country language as appropriate.

            Education:

            • Bachelor’s degree in Knowledge/Information Services, Communications, Education, Environment, Health, Behavioral, Life/Social Sciences International Development, Human Development or related field required.

              Experience:

              • 3-5 years’ relevant experience in non-governmental accounts, program/grant management, and US Government rules and regulations.
              • Ability to work both independently and in teams, within a fast-paced environment;
              • Demonstrated success in multicultural environments is required.
              • Excellent communication, writing, and oral presentation skills in English.
              • Previous experience in Ethiopia is required.
              • Ability to manage and complete numerous tasks with a high degree of organization and limited resources.
              • Experience of proactively identifying risk, addressing issues and appropriately. communicating these to the project staff, FHI 360 HQ, and USAID as needed.
              • Experience of establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different organizations and cultures.
              • Ability to meet deadlines with strong attention to consistency, detail, and quality.

                Typical Physical Demands:

                • Typical office environment.
                • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
                • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
                • Ability to lift/move up to 5 lbs.

                  Technology to be Used:

                  • Personal Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

                    Travel Requirements:

                    • 10% - 25%
