The Opportunity

The Eastern Africa Migration Route Project is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The project, which will be implemented across three countries (Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan) will be directed from a Program Management Unit (PMU), hosted by Save the Children’s Cairo Area Office. The project focus on Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia to strengthen community-based protection mechanisms to enhance local capacity, prevent and respond to child and youth displacement and migration. With a focus on the longer term needs of children and youth on the move, as well as vulnerable children and youth within host communities, Save the Children commits to increase self-reliance through coordinated approaches that deliver integrated services for children at-risk of irregular migration, in transit, and upon arrival to longer-term destinations.

The East African Migration Routes Project is governed and managed by three key bodies – a Steering Committee, a Technical Advisory Group (TAG), and a Project Management Unit (PMU). The latter is headed by the Program Director who is responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction and operational management of the project. Its responsibilities include satisfying all contractual obligations, ensuring work is delivered on time and within budget, ensuring the quality of the program, direct deliverables, and technical assistance provided, and guaranteeing robust monitoring and evaluation of interventions. Program Director will lead the Program Management Unit, composed of Program Director, Program Manager, MEAL and Knowledge Manager, Children on the Move Specialist and Finance Manager.

The Program Director is responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction and operational management of the East African Migration Routes Project. Whilst responsibility for the quality of program delivery resides with the Country Offices, the Program Director will ensure effective management of the overall grant with particular attention to overall project cycle management oversight, contractual compliance, positive Donor and Member relations, and the ensuring proactive technical support is provided. The role will maintain a coherent overview of implementation and performance against key indicators, monitor budgets and have forecasting oversight of the overall grant and ensure appropriate, timely and accurate sharing of information with members, and donors.
