The Barcelona Institute for Global Health, ISGlobal, is the fruit of an innovative alliance between academic, government, and philanthropic institutions to contribute to the efforts undertaken by the international community to address the challenges in global health.

The Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM), established in 1996 and represented by the Fundação Manhiça, a legal Mozambican entity established in 2008, aims at conducting and promoting health research in national priority health areas to safeguard the health of the most vulnerable populations.

What We Are Looking for:

The Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM), in collaboration with the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), is seeking applicants for a four-year predoctoral researcher in environmental health and or environmental epidemiology. The candidate will be enrolled in a PhD programme at the University of Barcelona. The candidate will be based at CISM for the majority of the PhD period, with up to one year (not necessarily consecutive) in Barcelona for training at ISGlobal in Barcelona. The candidate will be co-supervised by faculty from CISM and ISGlobal.

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the PhD researcher is to develop a programme of research focused on the influence of environment on population health in Mozambique. The candidate will lead and contribute to peer-reviewed publications as part of the candidate’s PhD thesis.

Required Qualifications:

· Masters degree in health sciences, physical sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry, engineering), mathematics, statistics, computer science, economics, or other relevant field.

· Strong quantitative skills

· Ability to work in English

· Ability to work in multi-cultural setting
