Minimum two years of relevant professional experience in an international organization, government or non-government sectors, political parties, legislatures or academia/think-tanks;

Mandatory:

First-level university degree in international relations, political science, social sciences, journalism, development studies or related fields; Minimum two years of relevant professional experience in an international organization, government or non-government sectors, political parties, legislatures or academia/think-tanks; Knowledge of the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, International agencies in BiH; and their activities and mandates; Experience in preparing analytical reports, research, writing and editing; Computer literate with practical experience using Microsoft applications, including word processing and e-mail; Professional fluency in English with excellent communication (both oral and written) skills.

Desirable:

Knowledge of local languages would be an asset.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The Political and Reporting Unit is located within the Office of the Head of Mission’s Policy and Planning Section and is led by the Senior Political Adviser. The Unit provides analysis and reporting on political developments in BiH, assesses trends affecting the political and security situation, provides early warning and political advice to the Chief of Policy and Planning and Head of Mission, and recommends action to senior management on political and programmatic synergies.

The main purpose of the role is to analyse socio-political trends in the Mission’s operating environment, with a particular focus on issues affecting Mission activities and BiH’s ability to meet OSCE commitments, including through consultation and coordination with other Mission staff as needed. Furthermore, the purpose of the job is to alert and advise the Senior Political Advisor on any issues that could require a response or action by the Mission and prepares regular and ad-hoc reports on socio-political trends.

The successful candidate will be tasked with the following duties:

1. Producing and presenting background material for internal and external meetings of Mission Senior Staff, including, talking points, speeches, briefing packages, policy messages and attends and reports on these meetings as requested;
2. Drafting and reviewing policy documents and project proposals and reports for external distribution, ensuring that material submitted for clearance is consistent with the Mission’s mandate, OSCE commitments and political objectives;
3. Contributing to the development of Mission strategy by following decisions of the OSCE Permanent and Ministerial Councils and taking part in internal working groups, with the aim of establishing coherent Mission policy in those areas;
4. Reporting on and monitoring regional developments as well as the activities of international organizations relevant to the work of the Mission;
5. Maintaining contacts with key partners and in delivering presentations to external audiences on the country’s political environment.
