The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Policy and Advocacy Associate to support GAIN Pakistan’s policy and advocacy work. This role will be offered on fixed-term contract of up to 2 years’, subject to availability of funding. You will be based in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.

About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Policy Advisor, the Associate will support the implementation of specific project activities including research, preparing briefs and discussion papers, capacity building, partnerships management and reporting to further food system transformation in Pakistan.

Key Responsibilities include;

  • Supporting strategy related work for specific geographies such as tracking decision roadmap, developing relevant interpretations for decision making, and conducting landscape analysis, etc.
  • Preparing briefs, discussion papers and other content development support (e.g., inputs/notes requested by government partners/stakeholders, country briefs, publication drafts etc.)
  • Facilitating translation of policy decisions into tasks and projects and ensuring their effective and timely implementation
  • Responsible for compiling data, conducting data analysis and synthesizing findings for reports, briefs, and for engagement with government and other stakeholders
  • Conducting desk research, literature reviews, and other research analysis

About You

The ideal candidate should have proven experience working in an environment requiring collaboration and liaising with government stakeholders, relevant industries, and international organizations. You should have strong technical knowledge of public health and nutrition, including micronutrient deficiency control. Also, you should have understanding or experience in nutrition policy formulation and implementation as well as technical knowledge of health systems. Candidate with experience in international NGO is an advantage.

The postholder should have excellent communication skills and fluent in written and spoken English. Also, you should be willing to work effectively in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment and willing to travel in challenging environments.

You should have strong data analysis skills and the ability to conduct desk research, literature reviews, and other research analysis and synthesize findings. Candidates will ideally have a bachelors’ in Agriculture, Economics, Nutrition, Public Health, Business Management or related fields or an equivalent qualification.

About our Offer

The starting salary on offer for this role is from PKR 1,544,280 – PKR 1,770,264 per annum, depending on experience.

GAIN has a fair and competitive salary structure that allows for annual progression subject to good performance.
