Global Brigades Greece is seeking healthcare professionals who are licenced to practice in Greece (pediatricians, gynecologists, midwives, dentists), and willing to spend workdays providing medical attention in mainland refugee camps with scarce resources. These workdays would be short term (4 consecutive days, 1-4 times per month for the period of May to September 2020) placements where you will see and treat patients for a specific medical intervention project in conjunction with foreign university volunteers who will be operating as clinic support staff and/or shadowing you as you work. An interest in collaboration and teaching of young individuals is an important component to this role.

Daily Tasks and Expectations (include but not limited to):

Medical Brigade Clinic Work

  • Apply medical knowledge and skills to the diagnosis and treatment of patients in the brigade clinic

  • Treat cases in line with protocols and universal precautions

  • Keep patients and families informed of the treatment to be followed, checking that they have understood

  • Ensure that professional autonomy and confidentiality are respected, and demonstrate a good attitude and bedside manner towards patients and their caregivers

  • Provide advice on the procedure for referrals

  • As you treat patients, provide instructions, explanations, and generally engage the volunteers who are shadowing or supporting you

Other Responsibilities:

Volunteer Assignment

  • Work with the local GB Greece staff to ensure volunteers have effective service opportunities Monday-Friday 9am-5pm

  • Support volunteers and GB partners to effectively provide service

  • Support the health and safety of volunteers while at the camp

  • Collaborate with the GB Greece staff on any projects identified

Ongoing Volunteer Support and Monitoring

  • Be familiar and responsible for the emergency evacuation process of volunteers from the camp

Implementation

Qualifications:

  • Be of Greek citizenship or a Greek national with all the associated permissions to practice in Greece

  • Possess a diploma certifying professional career (in medicine, dentistry, etc)

  • Be currently board certified by the Ministry of Health

  • Hold valid registration with one of the Medical or Dental Regional Greek Associations

  • Good command of English

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to provide consultation and medical services through GB Greece cultural mediators /interpreters

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people

  • Adaptability and eagerness to be part of a team environment

  • Positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-motivated **

Compensation & Logistics:

  • Compensation will vary depending upon your specialty, typically it will be around 80 Euros a day

  • To be paid by bank transfer upon submission of an invoice
