Overview of position:

  • Established in 1997, our client works to eliminate the threat posed by mines, ERW's & IED's by coordinating UN mine action, leading operational responses at the country level & supporting the development of standards, policies & norms.

Role objectives:

  • Under the overall guidance & supervision, the Chief of Operations, Operations Officer / Pre Deployment Training Instructor will be responsible for the following:
  • Implementation & monitoring of technical & national safety standards.
  • Teach a search & detect course to the next MINUSMA rotation of Togolese troops.
  • Understand the IMAS & IATG’'s ensure that MA organization's SOP's are in compliance with the IMAS, IATG’s & are conducting safe & effective MA & PSSM operations.
  • As directed by the Regional Area Coordinator, coordinate, facilitate & prioritize all operational tasking within the AOR.
  • Provide advice & input into the development of strategic & procedural documents related to IED TM matters in support to MINUSMA.
  • As directed by the Regional Area Coordinator, coordinate efforts in the area of capacity building relations in MA & against the risks posed by explosive threats (EOD & IED) in accordance with the approved project work plan.
  • Other tasks as directed by the Program Manager & Chief of Operations.
  • Assist in the production, implementation & monitoring of technical training documentation.
  • Continuously look for areas of improvement in efficiency, effectiveness & safety of the program with regarding to training for the TCC.
  • Conduct training on IED threat mitigation as required.
  • Weekly report detailing all activities conducted that week.
  • Weekly report detailing future activities.
  • Mission reports as required.

Project reporting:

  • This role will work under the overall guidance & supervision, the Chief of Operations.

Key competencies:

  • Master Degree in International Peace & Security, Humanitarian Affairs, International Affairs, Peacebuilding, Social Sciences, Humanities, or related field with 5 years of relevant experience or Bachelor Degree in the same field with with 7 years of relevant experience or 11 years of experience in the management of operations within a recognized military, police, humanitarian mine action organization, development organization, or other relevant field experience.
  • EOD Level 3+ Qualified (desired).
  • Search & detect certified by internationally military or civilian accredited training organisation.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in planning & coordinating MA activities, specifically EOD tasks, weapons & ammunition management related tasks, C-IED related tasks, IEDD related tasks.
  • Knowledge of the IMAS is required.
  • Experience with training foreign nationals in IED TM techniques required.
  • Recent IED TM operational experience (within the last 36 months) within a military or civilian govt. program is desired.
  • Knowledge of the UN system & procedures is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Google Suite is desired.
  • 1+ year experience of working in harsh conditions.
  • Experience of working in Africa is desirable.
  • Must be fluent in French both oral & written and working knowledge of English is an asset.
