Job Purpose

The position holder is a specialist in Business Continuity and oversees the standards for Disaster Recovery procedures establishment, execution and improvement, including backup of all data on servers (on-premises and cloud based).

The job purpose is to:

  • Deliver a high quality IT infrastructure support services for the business continuity during disaster recovery process execution;
  • Provide efficient backup services to support the disaster recovery process in force at IFRC and guarantee data information security, availability, integrity through strong operational competencies within ITIL framework;
  • Act as a focal point to provide these services by setting backup standards and have the overall responsibility of Disaster Recovery procedures establishment and execution;
  • Support business continuity plan by implementing robust solutions within the Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Develop operational procedures aligned with the support activities requirements, maintain them up to date and provide structured support recommendations to the various IFRC stakeholders and end users.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

General duties

  • Ensure service quality and information integrity, while respecting operating methods defined within the ITD quality standards.
  • Manage the implementation, support and evolution of disaster recovery and backup services applying the standard operational procedures in force within the IT department.
  • Manage operational tools (monitoring and management) to ensure sustainability disaster recovery and backup services for the various IFRC business units and at end user level.
  • Maintain the operational knowledge base in the service management tool; record incident; provide quality resolution advises.
  • Establish and Update operational procedures to warranty infrastructures and dependant services availability in accordance with operational level agreements (OLA).
  • Support the IT project managers during project life cycles activites realted to these systems and manage related projects if required.
  • Participate in all activites related to providing adequate and stable recovery procedure, backup infrastructures and related services to all IFRC stakeholders distributed accross 5 regions.
  • Identify, review and participate in the development of IT training solutions to deliver appropriate, cost effective training in IT topics for users while promoting on-line training opportunities.
  • Contribute actively to the overall satisfaction level of IFRC end users while develop and promote effective working relationship within the ITD, the wider IFRC and the RCRC movements including ICRC.
  • Manage personal knowledge and continuously update your skillset on various systems and applications used at IFRC.
  • Adhere to staff regulation of the IFRC Budapest Global Service Center regulations and to the IT security rules at all the times.
  • Communicate effectively with the various IFRC stakeholders within the IT sector, share knowledge and be subject matter expert.

Specific duties

Operations support

  • Ensure the smooth operations (administration, patching, monitoring and optimization) of the disaster recovery and backup infrastructures and services within IFRC quality standards.
  • Warranty operational level agreements for all disaster recovery systems, backup infrastructures and services in aligment with established operational procedures for IFRC worldwide.
  • Develop rigorous operational procedures upon requirement and provide expected support quality level in operations.
  • Support backup infrastructure environements within the ITIL framework during incidents, configuration, problems, troubleshooting and resolution phases.
  • Report on changes and events within the scope of support activities which could have and operational impact on the service availability.
  • Provide recommendations to the infrastructure support Team Leader to enable fast and effective diagnostic, allowing resolution activities prioritization.
  • Guarantee production infrastructures availability while ensuring resolution time commitment (OLA/SLA) and high quality support services to the end users.
  • Intall, implement, manage and maintain the ITD disaster recovery systems and backup environments availability across the IFRC Federation distributed accross 5 regions.
  • Make proposal for new tools or methods to improve solutions, infrastructures and tasks undertaken by the infrastructure support unit.
  • Manage technologies to support information privacy, confidentiality, security, integrity and availability requirements.
  • Follow and apply industry standards and best practices; implement external compliance requirements to ensure proper operations and standardization of operational environment.
  • Be proactive in identifiying and implementing opportunities to improve operation outcomes.
  • Act as knowledge backup to other areas of expertise within the infrastructure support unit.
  • Ensure a good collaboration with all the IT support team involved in operational support activities and more generally within ITD.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Identify documentation requirements to maintain efficient operational level, anticipate documents needs and regularly update operational documentation.
  • Create, maintain and improve the knowledge base and knowledge documentation managed through the Service Management Tool.
  • Document incidents, problems, changes with relevant information to allow continuous improvement within the support team and the end user satisfaction level.
  • Provide periodic reports upon request on cloud, virtualization and backup infrastructures usage, performances, capacity and availability.
  • Record and Treat operational information (general and specific) accurately and confidentially.

External Relation

  • Maintain regular contact with end users within the Secretariat as required.
  • Maintain contacts with other support teams involved during the request resolution process.

Office Activities

  • Adhere to all administrative procedures linked to his/her work.

Education

  • Engineering degree, in computer sciences discipline or equivalent experience.
  • ITIL certification or equivalent experience and proven track record of ITIL usage in enterprise environment.
  • Project management professional certification - Preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in managing day-to-day operational activities within a Microsoft-based infrastructure. (Windows Server 2K12R2, 2K16, 2K19 with different roles including Active Directory Domain Services, Remote Desktop Services, File Server, NPS, DNS)
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the IT disaster recovery area, with track record of DRP (Disaster Response & Contingency Plan) implementation and execution in regulated enterprise context.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in implementing and managing backup and disaster recovery solutions, software, and processes including Microsoft Data Protection Manager, Azure Cloud, and Veeam BR.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in managing enterprise grade storage and server hardware equipment including configuration, monitoring, performance optimization, and lifecycle management.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in working with Microsoft Cloud platforms (Azure, O365) with special focus on platforms providing data integrity and Security (Rights Management Services, Azure Information Protection and Data Leakage Prevention)
  • Minimum 2 years of operational experience and management of VMware vSphere family and Azure cloud IaaS infrastructure in a hybrid environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Language

  • Excellent knowledge and proven experience with disaster recovery process handling.
  • Ability to identify IT system weaknesses and propose remediation to support business continuity plan.
  • Good knowledge of file sharing services, best practices notably about security concepts (FTP/SFTP, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online) and secure file sharing solutions (e.g., ooDrive)
  • Excellent knowledge of and proven experience with day-to-day hands-on management of enterprise backup solutions employed to provide data availability and integrity for various cloud service providers and on premises solutions. (Veeam BR, Microsoft System Center DPM, Azure/O365 cloud...etc.)
  • Strong operational experience with managing enterprise class storage and server equipment. (DELL SAN , DELL S erver , Synology NAS )
  • Proven ability to work under stressful conditions, such as business-related crises and fast-pacing atmosphere .
  • Affinity for team work, collaborative attitude, open-minded and adaptable
  • Good analytical skills to interprets problems, identifies solutions and possible side-effects.
  • Fluently spoken and written English.
  • Good command of another IFRC official language (French, Spanish or Arabic ) is preferred, Hungarian is an asset.
