Activities and Tasks:

Provide technical support for the implementation of the iodine deficiency disorders control project

• Provide technical support for capacity building of salt/health inspectors for monitoring and quality control
• Facilitate meetings with multisectoral IDD committee to ensure that key ministries incorporate salt iodization into their annual plans and budgets to support promotion, monitoring, and evaluation activities
• Develop SOPs to define roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders on enforcement and inspection of Universal Salt Iodization (USI)
• Facilitate organization of a national workshop for the validation and dissemination of National iodine nutrition survey results and finalization of action plan for Universal Salt Iodization with key stakeholders

2. Monitoring, evaluation and reporting of progress from provincial and central levels of the IDD prevention project implementation

• Prepare and assess monitoring and evaluation reports to identify gaps, strengths and/or weaknesses in programme management. Identify lessons learned and use knowledge gained for development planning and timely intervention to achieve goals.

3. Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building of the IDD prevention project implementation

• Facilitate regular meetings of the IDD national committee to build the capacity of partners and stakeholders in implementation of iodine deficiency disorders control program in Angola.
• Develop final report of consultancy and share best practices and knowledge learned.

Key Deliverables:

Desk review of materials and literature including familiarization with methodology; development of work plan within 5 days 01 st to 5 th Feb 2021. #1 Work plan discussed and agreed with supervisor

Technical work with stakeholders (Ministry of Health, Secretary of State of fisheries, IDD committee, INE and Universidade Agostinho Neto) to finalize report on iodine nutrition survey done in 2019 within 30 days from 8th to 19 March 2021. #2 Iodine Nutrition Survey report finalized

Workshop to disseminate and endorse National iodine nutrition survey results 20 days. 22 nd March to 16 April 2021. #3 Report of the Workshop

Consultation workshop with IDD committee for development of national USI-IDD strategic plan following evidences provided by the 2019 iodine survey within 20 days, from 19 April to 14 May 2021. #4 National USI-IDD strategic plan developed

Develop SOPs to define roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders on enforcement and inspection of Universal Salt Iodization (USI) within 10 days from 17 to 28 May 2021. #5 SOPs developed

Advocacy meetings with relevant stakeholders to revise national legislation to cover all food grade salt, including salt for processed foods within 10 days from 31 May to 11June 2021. #6 Report with recommendations and action points from meetings

Conduct training of salt/health inspectors on monitoring systems and quality control for enforcement of national legislation within 5 days 14th to 18 June 2021. #7 Training report with pre- and post-evaluation

Conduct training of salt producers for adequate salt iodization within 5 days from 21 to 25 June 2021 #8 Training report with pre and post-evaluation

Final report with best practices and knowledge learned within 3 days from 28 to 30 June 2021. #9 Final report of consultancy

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have...

• Advanced university degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Public Health & Nutrition, Health Sciences, International Health & Nutrition, Public Health & Nutrition Policy and Management, Family Health & Nutrition, Nutritional Epidemiology, Health & Nutrition Education, Health & Nutrition Promotion and Disease Prevention or other relevant discipline(s). A relevant first-level university degree (Bachelor's), in combination with 7 years of additional relevant work experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
• Five (5) years of relevant professional work experience, including in developing countries. Experience in monitoring gender inequalities and in programming interventions that reduce these inequalities;
• Fluency in English and Portuguese (verbal and written) is required;
