Tasks and Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the National Medical Officer, the incumbent carries out the following duties:

1. As part of the medical team, performs preventive and curative duties for staff members seeking basic medical assistance;
(a) Prepares the treatment room according to established standards; sterilizes and cleans instruments; and oversees the work of the cleaning staff.
(b) Provides individual care and advice to patients, including first-aid.
(c) Checks pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height of staff members; administers injections.
(d) Takes care on the medical equipment in the Mission area.
(e) Escorts patients to the local/International medical facilities for further medical examinations/treatment as requested by National Medical Officer.

2. Participates in initiatives for preventive health care;
(a) Assists in following up on the recommendations made by the National Medical Officer on hygiene and cleaning standards, on control of water standards, of food hygiene and of hygiene of the kitchen and restaurants at OMIK Headquarters.
(b) Contributes to collecting and disseminating information on health hazards in the OMIK mission area.
(c) Participates in health initiatives/campaigns, if required.
(d) Collects related medical information from the National Medical Officer , and consolidates written contributions for review and approval by the supervisor;

3. Performs administrative work and informal translations;
(a) Updates electronic records on medical facilities and specialists available in all geographic regions of Kosovo.
(b) Escorts patients to the location of treatment and to interpret conversations with medical staff from Albanian or other local languages into English and vice-versa.
(c) Collects statistics for managerial purposes.

4. Performs related duties as assigned;
(a) Drives official vehicles according to the needs.

Necessary Qualifications:

Completed secondary education supplemented by a diploma of certified nurse by a recognized institution; At least 6 years of experience of working in a Medical practice or Hospital preferably in an international set up. Established experience in using medical equipment used for testing. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and local languages. Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities; Ability and willingness to work as a member of team, with people of different cultural, and religious backgrounds, different gender, and diverse political views, while maintaining impartiality and objectivity; Computer literate with practical experience using Microsoft applications; Valid driving license.

Remuneration Package:

Monthly remuneration, subject to social security deductions is 1,246.67 Euro/month. Social benefits will include participation in the OSCE group medical insurance scheme and the OSCE Provident Fund.


Appointments are normally made at step 1 of the applicable OSCE salary scale. At the discretion of the appointing authority a higher step may be approved up to a maximum of step 3 subject to specific conditions.
