Organizational SettingS

Under the overall guidance of WHO Representative to Myanmar, the Nurse Coordinators (Childhood Cancer Initiatives) will work under the direct supervision of the National Professional Officer (NCDs and Mental Health). In close collaboration with National Childhood Cancer Control Program Director, the Nurse Coordinators will work closely with the childhood cancer control project manager, project officer and other health professionals at Hemato-Oncology Unit of Yangon Children Hospital and 300-bedded Mandalay Children Hospital. The candidate will provide support to Ministry of Health & Sports for national childhood cancer control programme and support the implementation of relevant collaborative deliverables of the WHO-MoHS collaborative country programme, National Health Plans 2017-2021& 2022-2026, WHO Myanmar Country Cooperative Strategy 2019-2025 and Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan 2018-2030. This includes monitoring and reporting support for relevant indicators and targets embodied in the aforementioned plans. Overall, focus is on successful implementation of Childhood Cancer Initiatives in the context of Comprehensive Paediatric Cancer Control Plan for Myanmar 2017-2021, its successor document and WHO country cooperation strategy for Myanmar and national health plans of Ministry of Health & Sports.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • To support implementation of relevant parts of the WHO-MoHS collaborative programmes 2020-21 and 2022-23 and of relevant indicators and targets in the plans and documents mentioned in the section 'organizational settings' above
  • To perform as a receptionist at outpatient clinic to support triage and patient flow management
  • To ensure the measure such as body weight, temperature, and other relevant vital signs are in place prior to consultation services
  • To support in development of systematic register and follow up scheduling arrangement
  • To develop a notification mechanism to support reminders and ease the tracking of patient for regular follow-up visits
  • To support administrative-technical transactions for appropriate referral services, including but not limited to checking the referral packaging, and conduct patient counselling to ensure patient trust and continuing taken services at referral network site as described
  • To coordinate with network sites for patient referral, counter referral and tracking patient treatment status
  • To keep record of referral and counter referral of patient between main centres and their network sites
  • To perform as entry and exist points at main centres for all referral and counter referral cases management
  • To communicate closely with network sites to identify any difficulty, challenges encounter and any support required for childhood cancer management and report to program officer or other delegates for further management
  • To review and analysis the referral record and follow up schedule, to produce report and report the findings to programme officer, relevant delegates, and initiative discussion for resolution.
  • To navigate patient and families to access to the right resources of childhood cancer information and management
  • To support hospital nurses in explaining of treatment medication to discharged or referred patient and care giver to ensure correct medication throughout continuum of care
  • To support in development of nursing education and care materials
  • To support relevant tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Work Relations and Partnerships

The Nurse Coordinator provides support to Programme Officer, to WR, and relevant stakeholders at Yangon Children Hospital & 300-bedded Mandalay Children Hospital to ensure effective Childhood Cancer management between main centre and its network sites. The candidate requires to work at full-time in public week days. The candidate is expected to contribute his/her services in case of emergency situations at assigned Children Hospital.

Impact of functions

The function plays a key role in project operation and documentation to ensure effective childhood cancer management across main centres and their network sites by bringing the services closer to the patients and hence to reduce abandonment and improve treatment completion and patient survival rate.

Qualification

Educational background

Essential: Bachelor of Nursing Sciences (B.N.Sc.) or Bachelor of Community Health (B.Comm.H) or Diploma in Nursing

Desirable: Masters' degree in Nursing Sciences or Masters' degree in Community Health or equivalent professional training

Professional experience and knowledge

Essential: Good track records of at least two years working experiences at UN, International-Local NGOs-ethic health organizations, public-private setting. Skill full in computer operation and excel function. Must be able to work in extra-office hours, under pressure and travel in the country.

Desirable: Having working experiences in government hospital or MOHS department and/or coordination experiences at UN, International or Local NGOs or Ethnic Health Organizations will be an asset.

Language Skills

Required: Expert in Myanmar language (spoken and written)

Desired: Intermediate level in English language (spoken and written)
