Organizational Setting

This position is located in FAO Pakistan, based in Karachi. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural , fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner. 

The following position is SB3-SC5.

Pakistan has been experiencing frequent natural disasters and non-coherent economic policies which has affected the overall economy specifically the agriculture sector and livelihood of the people. Outbreak of pandemic and locust attack has damaged agriculture crops and affected the food supply chain in Pakistan. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations supporting the Government of Pakistan at national and provincial level through different analytical policy reports on food supply chain, food forecast livestock, forestry, fisheries and climate change management. Similarly, a web-based data management system is under development for agriculture, food security and nutrition statistics in Pakistan. Through this system, support Government of Pakistan in monitoring food prices and supply chain through live dashboards which will enable better planning and policy making. 

FAO Pakistan seeks to fill a Communication Assistant position with relevant experience & skills for contributing the SBIP/SWAT project and assist the team in Pakistan. This experience will provide wide scope of work as outlined below: 

 

Reporting Lines

The incumbent will report to FAOR, FAO’s Sr. Land & Water Officer of the project and FAO Communication Officer, and liaise with OCC branches and SBIP Project Team:

 

Technical Focus

The Communication Assistant will be responsible for providing information campaigns and communication materials to be disseminated to stakeholders and media related to the project and assist in the website management and social media content production. All communication materials will follow FAO clearance processes and comply with FAO standard

 

Tasks and responsibilities

•    Liaise with the Office of Communication (OCC) will be maintained, either directly or through an agreed focal point/coordinator, to ensure compliance with OCC standards, appropriate review and clearance processes.
•    Support the preparation of publications and documents including editing, design and layout, and publication workflow, coordinating with graphic designers) and broad dissemination, within and outside FAO.
•    Ensure that all publications and documents to be disseminated via the FAO document repository are timely processed through the corporate Publications Workflow System (PWS), from their planning to production and dissemination.
•    Work in constant contact with the Publishing Group at FAO and ensure that all corporate publishing standards are adhered to in publications and documents.
•    Draft and edit communications’ copy (press releases, publications, social media posts).
•    Work to plan and implement internal/external communications strategies.
•    Manage social media campaigns and day-to-day activities. For videos intended for social media, liaise with OCCI to clear the scripts prior to editing.
•    Create/edit flyers, articles, alerts, signage, and press releases.
•    Create and maintain information material for SIDA official website, as and when required.
•    Coordinate special events relevant to SBIP project.
•    Support in producing high quality video content and other digital information products.
•    Support in production & dissemination of newsletter for the project activities. 
•    Assist in media relations and event management activities.
•    Provide administrative support to programs and internal teams.
•    Develop and implement a communication strategy that includes media outreach and social media content creation.
•    Research and write press releases, and content for the company website, infographics, blogs, and newsletters.
•    Content writing experience for all media platforms.
•    Proven social media and networking expertise.
•    Possess graphic design, digital editing, online collaboration, and public and media relations
•    Any other tasks assigned by supervisor 

 

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

 

Minimum Requirements

•    University Degree in relevant field of Communication Studies
•    03 years of relevant experience in field of communication
•    Proficient knowledge (level C) of English 
•    Knowledge of language used in Sindh will be an asset
•    National of Pakistan
