The ILO is issuing a call for expression of interest to build a roster for Medical Doctors temporary position at P3 grade. These are assignments of a purely temporary nature, not expected to lead to a career in the ILO. The selected candidate will be issued with daily contracts. The selection process is subject to local recruitment regulations and Article 4.3 of the ILO Staff Regulations. The ILO may only offer a contract to persons who have a valid residency status in Switzerland or who currently reside in neighbouring France.

Introduction

The position is located in the Medical Service (MEDSERV), which forms part of the Human Resources Development Department (HRD). MEDSERV has a mandate to provide occupational health services to ILO staff and also to assist consultants, delegates and visitors to the ILO headquarters building if taken unwell during their visit.

Medical confidentiality is essential to the functioning of MEDSERV. The successful candidate will be required to sign a confidentiality undertaking as part of their work contract.

The position of Medical Doctor will report directly to the ILO Medical Adviser and will work alongside a team of other doctors, nurses and secretaries. Each doctor is expected to be professionally accountable and able to work independently.

Specific Duties

1.Perform \"fitness to work examinations\" and on the basis of these examinations, or on medical reports from other doctors in the field, to make appropriate certification of medical fitness, in relation to the actual or proposed work contract.
2.Respond to requests from the Medical Adviser, staff doctors, nurses or security guards to give medical advice (in person or virtually) and treatment as necessary, including attending medical emergencies in MEDSERV or within the ILO Geneva office.
3.Support the nurses with replies to emails from staff members arriving in the INFIRMARY mailbox requesting medical advice.
4.Support the nurses with contact tracing for people with confirmed or probable COVID-19 infection, including drafting email templates to be used as standard replies for contact tracing and other medical follow-up and assisting with the upkeep of statistics during the COVID-19 pandemic.
5.Contribute to the planning and realization of health promotion and health policy issues within the domain of the MEDSERV as well as assisting with provision of medical information for the ILO intranet and updates to this information.
6.Review cases related to staff members requiring long-term sick leave in order to evaluate the medical need for ongoing care and support.
7.Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

Education

A Medical Degree that qualifies for registration as a licensed medical practitioner and current unrestricted registration with a medical licensing authority. Certified specialization in a medical field (e.g. internal medicine, occupational health, or other). Training in at least one of the following fields: occupational health, travel medicine, public health.

Experience

At least five years of relevant postgraduate experience as a licensed medical practitioner. Experience in occupational health, travel medicine or emergency care would be an advantage. Experience of working as a physician in a United Nations or in an international organization would be an advantage. Experience in the Swiss health system would also be an advantage.

Languages

Excellent command of one official language (English, French, Spanish) of the Organization with a working knowledge of a second official language. A working knowledge of a third official language would be an advantage.

Competencies

In addition to the ILO core competencies, this position requires:

Good knowledge of and skills in up-to-date principles and practice of general and occupational medicine. Knowledge and experience in emergencies including first aid and basic life support skills. Knowledge of travel medicine including the ability to advise on vaccination, malarial prophylaxis and appropriate disease-prevention services and counselling. Knowledge and respect of medical confidentiality. Good knowledge of PC software (including word processor and spreadsheet and presentation software) such as Microsoft Office.

Good communication and strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team. Time-keeping skills. Initiative and the ability to work independently. Ability to communicate to small or large groups of people. Adaptability to changing needs and to respond effectively to new challenges. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to demonstrate gender-sensitive and non-discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
