Provision of Training to selected beneficiaries in Northern Syria.

HIZME project aims to connect youth with entrepreneurship and job opportunities through networking with stakeholders, career couching and counselling and the provision of capacity building and technical vocational training activities.

1. Background

Orange in Syria

Orange is a local civil society organization, headquartered in Gaziantep, Turkey, with representative offices in Sanliurfa, Hatay, Kilis, and Kahramanmaras provinces. Orange has been operating since early 2016 in both Turkey and Syria in the sectors of Education, Child Protection, Early Recovery and Livelihoods, and Civil Society Capacity Development. Orange is currently partnering with different agencies, including GIZ, implementing programming in northern Syria, with Danish Refugees Council in Turkey implementing a livelihoods programming, with UNOCHA HPF with implementing Child Protection Project, with Grant Management Organization implementing integrated protection and livelihoods project, with Qatar Charity implementing education and Technical, Vocational and Educational Trainings, with UNICEF implementing an education programming and with Chemonics a quality education project.

Orange has access to the proposed project area in Idleb governorate through ongoing projects in partnership with GIZ, Qatar Charity, UNOCHA HPF, and Chemonics. All Orange’s projects are implemented utilizing a result-based management approach. This is further ensured through the utilization of standard policies and operating procedures in Project Management, Human Resources, MEAL, Finance, Procurement, and Safety and Security.

3. About the project HIZME:

The project will have two capacity development layers, one for the centers’ project personnel and another for the project beneficiaries, youth. The first layer of capacity development will be provided to the HIZME project personnel, mainly the career counselors and the trainers. The second layer will be equipping the youth in northwest Syria with the skills they need to promote their access to employment opportunities

The project aims to build the capacity of project staff on different skills including career guidance, counselling, coaching, employment skills, entrepreneurship skills, and networking skills. The project team will conduct field visits and outreach campaigns to inform youth about the project activities.

The project team will undertake a Labor Market Assessment LMA during the early stages of the project. The objective of this assessment is to collect robust quantitative and qualitative data about the state of the economy in the area. Also, a user-friendly website will be designed to access the youth within the project communities as well as to access other youth not accessing the center.

The project will assist 1000 youth to improve and develop their skills by attending employment skills training as well as other complementary soft skills while supporting the youth to be placed in the identified sectors of work in north Syria either to be working as interns/apprentice of daily workers/volunteers or maintain a full-time work opportunity. The aim of this is to improve access of youth to job (long or short term) opportunities.

In the final stage, the project team will support the youth with coaching and follow up support sessions to ensure that those youth are provided with comprehensive services and to ensure that youth have access to all support needed.

4. Activities of the project related to the subject of this ToR:

Based on conducted labor market and the counseling session that project team finalized within early phases of the project. The most eligible and vulnerable people will be selected to be part of the trainings. According to the results for both Labor market assessment and counseling session. Following 1000 youth will receive soft skills training, depending on need.

4.1 Expected results of the training:

By the end of the training course, the beneficiaries will be able to:

  • Definition of the Advocacy

  • The impact of Advocacy campaigns and non-profit organization needs the advocacy

  • the type of the advocacy campaigns

  • How to plan and implement advocacy campaigns

  • Photographic skills

  • Definition of the press

  • Editing and writing the news

  • Press interviews

  • Body language

The training must be highly practical (group work and practical exercises with examples, consultation, and mentoring, workshop), and correspond with the needs and existing capacities of the trainees in order to allow them to directly apply their knowledge in the field during the actual implementation. The results of the assessments conducted with the organizations will be shared by the trainers prior to the launch of the training.

5. Training schedule and training topics to be covered

Training package should include the following topics:

· Advocacy campaigns management

· Photographic skills

· Press and news editing

6. Deliverables and responsibilities of the training provider

Prepare training methodology and modules in Arabic and English, taking into account the required hands-on approach and needs of the community and other local authorities in the target areas. The modules will be finalized in close consultation with Orange staff and will be based on prior assessments and lessons learnt from previous trainings. Training modules and materials must be shared with and provided to Orange staff before the expected launch of the trainings:

  • Prepare hand-outs in Arabic to be distributed to the participants during the trainings (the hand-outs in Arabic must be submitted before the start of the trainings to Orange staff for discussion and approval)

  • Prepare a simple pre and post training testing which will be used to evaluate learning progress of the trainees

  • Ensure all training materials utilized are shared with Orange staff

  • Benefit from and utilize already existing orange materials during the trainings (Projects Templates)

  • Perform the trainings according to the topics and timeframe agreed upon between Orange and the training provider

  • Report on the results of the trainings, including trainees’ feedback on the quality and content of the trainings and training materials, and performance of the trainers; and trainers’ feedback on the performance of the trainees and their further capacity building needs

  • Submit a final report summarizing the methodology and content of the trainings and the feedback of the trainers and trainees (according to the above), analytical inputs evaluating whether the objectives of the trainings were met is required.

7. Requirements and qualifications of the trainers:

  • Proven experience as a trainer in relevant topics

  • Previous experience in using participatory approach and practical methodology (“learning by doing”)

  • Proven experience in inclusive approach and gender inclusion

  • Fluency in Arabic (spoken and written)

  • Proven experience of work in community.

8. Location of the trainings Northern Syria: Idlib countryside (in safe areas in Ariha) Orange center.
