The Norwegian Refugee Council has an interesting and rewarding opportunity to be part of our newest country of operation - Sudan.

Who Are We ?  NRC is an International Non-Governmental Organization that operates in more than 30 countries. The main headquarter is in Oslo – Norway. NRC resumes its operation in Sudan on March 2020 and since then it has established different Area Offices in Gadarif, Fasher, Geneina, Kosti and South Kordofan. NRC is mainly involved in different core competencies such as Education, Protection, Wash, Shelter, Livelihoods and Food Security and Camp Management. The current Country Office is placed in Khartoum. 

As a priority, NRC is therefore hiring a Media & Communication Officer to be part of establishing NRC's programme in Sudan.

Duties and Responsibilities

Generic responsibilities

Content creation

Draft high quality creative public products (stories, case studies, social media content) that portray the humanitarian situation and needs in a manner that is dignified, people-centred, and in line with NRC guidelines Travel regularly to field offices to document testimonies, stories, photos, and others to deliver high quality, and impactful communications products, in line with NRC protection standards (consent, respect, dignified portraying)

Branding & Design

Monitor the correct use of the NRC brand in all visibility materials and support programme teams by designing quality visibility materials, as well as a range of communications products (presentations, reports, brochures) Support programme teams in reviewing and designing programmes publications, such as: RRM newsletter, CCCM Dashboards, Multi-sectoral needs assessments

Donor Compliance

Support the implementation and monitoring of all the different grants’ communication plans, in line with donor requirement (photos, case studies, social media, infographics, videos etc), and in close collaboration with program and field teams

Media

Monitor local media on topics of relevance to NRC Sudan and liaise professionally and efficiently with national and international journalists when required.

Specific responsibilities 

Content creation

Develop weekly social media content in English and Arabic in coordination with the regional media and communications adviser. Develop the multimedia portfolio of NRC Sudan on NRC visuals, especially in terms of videos and  pictures Coordinate with programme teams and draft compelling stories on the communities we serve, emerging issues, and our response in line with the communications and advocacy strategy of NRC Monitor performance of NRC social media content in order to communicate more effectively with targeted audience Support the communications strategy and content of the Digital Community Hub

Branding and Design

Design infographics, social media cards other creative content for social media Handle communications with relevant service providers (i.e. with contracted designers, copy-editors, printers, venues, etc)

Donor compliance

Conduct trainings and on the job technical capacity building of programme staff to produce quality communication materials and visibility

Media

Respond swiftly to media requests and ensure adherence to the signoff process in public communications

Required skills

At least two years experience working with INGOs, or equivalent experience working in media and communications Relevant university degree (for example, communications, journalism, languages) Very strong experience drafting material for public dissemination (stories, articles, photo essays) Experience creating social media content in a professional setting Demonstrated ability to take excellent photographs, and use Photoshop or relevant image-editing programs Experience in using in-design and other design softwares Analytic and computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) High level of English language proficiency (speaking, reading, writing) Demonstrated ability to interact with vulnerable population in a respectful and dignified manner
