Purpose of Job

Managing Director, Data &Transformation (MD D&T) leads the design and definition of the Bank’s blueprint and operating model that supports the Bank’s strategy and vision, and is the authority on change management and continuous improvement. The incumbent will also be responsible for defining and implementing a Data Governance strategy, framework and policies that drive efficient and effective management of business data at EBRD.

The MD D&T works with the Executive and Senior Management of the Bank influencing and supporting the Bank’s strategy through designing and implementing appropriate operating models and driving innovative and efficient ways of working.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Data &Transformation function, maintaining cohesion and motivation amongst staff and contractors/consultants in a matrix organisational structure.
  • Act as the intellectual leader to strategic change and transformation agenda, identify areas for potential improvements, identify financial and non-financial KPIs and rigorously define and track benefits to realise and maximise the value of change at the Bank.
  • Design, drive and gain approval for (including securing the funding for) necessary change programmes and projects across the Bank.
  • Through skilful stakeholder management, identify, cost and ensure accountability within the Bank for any change which impacts underlying systems, technology, individual responsibilities and organisational structures.
  • Act as a thought leader and authority on the intersection between data, technology and process design to deliver better results to customers and shareholders.
  • Promote best practice in change management and new ways of working (including agile) and provide guidance on their adoption in support of productivity and effectiveness improvements across the organisation.
  • Liaise with and influence senior stakeholders across the Bank, including the Board and Staff Council, and gain their support for programme design and implementation, including necessary sign-offs and approvals.
  • Manage the impact of changes to the change portfolio’s scope, requirements, budget, resource allocations, and time frames.
  • Oversee project/programme organisation and manpower planning, coordinate project budgets and cost/benefit analyses.
  • Ensure strategic alignment between the portfolio of change agenda and the Strategy Implementation Plan (SIP).

    Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

    • Well established judgement skills at a leadership level and track record of problem solving.
    • Extensive senior experience in complex project and change management.
    • Deep subject matter expertise in at least one lever of change (data, technology and processes) with sufficient knowledge and familiarity of the other two.
    • Experience in UX, process design and digitalisation.
    • Excellent analytical and decision making skills with a structured approach to delivery.
    • Solid understanding of change management including good experience of broad organisational change efforts.
    • Good understanding of the processes of a development bank (namely its investment, technical cooperation and policy dialogue processes and related interdependencies) or corporate banking.
    • Strong leadership, partnership and influencing skills and personal authority to effectively harness the cooperation of senior managers across departments with ability to work effectively at all levels of the organisation.
    • Influencing skills, ability to manage complex negotiations with multitude of stakeholders.
    • Team player and able to work with and manage through others in a matrix and collegiate style; strong coaching skills and ability to motivate individuals and teams with a focus on continuous improvement.
    • Excellent active listening skills and interpersonal and communication skills in English to communicate with a wide variety of people at all levels in the Bank, including the Board.
    • University degree or equivalent experience.
