Supplies are essential to fulfill children's rights. Supporting child survival and development programmes around the world, UNICEF-procured supplies are critical in providing for children's health, education and protecting them from abuse, exploitation, and neglect.

UNICEF procures and supplies over 5,000 products to address the needs of children.

In 2017, UNICEF procured $3.46 billion worth of supplies and services from all over the world, ensuring highqualityand good value through fair and openopen procurement.

As well as supporting UNICEF's ongoing programmatic activities, the Supply function provides rapid supply response toemergencies.

UNICEF also procures and supplies essential commodities on behalf of governments and other partners in their efforts. Theseprocurement servicescan also include in-country logistics, capacity building, and project management.

Ensuring the global availability of essential supplies through influencing markets for lifesaving commodities such as vaccines, essential medicines and health products, and implementing a range of supply chain models to ensure these supplies are delivered to children, are two overarching focuses.

How can you make a difference?

Through the Markets & Supplier Financing Centre (MSFC), UNICEF Supply Division seeks to influence positively global and local market dynamics to ensure strategic supplies and services are fit for purpose, available, affordable, and produced by a competitive supply base to meet the evolving needs of children and young people in the SDG era.

While MSFC coordinates the efforts of influencing markets across UNICEF Supply Division's different procurement centres and units, with each procurement centre playing a critical role in identifying and defining the approaches required, MSFC facilitates this body of work with market research, analysis, communication, and information transparency, as well as supplier financing solutions.

You will be accountable for:

Under the supervision of the Market Research Manager, MSFC, the Market Research Officer will be expected to support Supply Division's market research and supplier financing activities, including assisting in the design and execution of innovative market influencing and supplier financing mechanisms to achieve improved market conditions for key strategic supplies for children.

Key functions, accountabilities and related duties/tasks include:

Monitor and analyze UNICEF strategic and essential commodity procurement trends. Devise, evaluate and implement methods for collecting intelligence on needs, demand, market conditions and shortcomings for both existing and novel products. Analyze and convert complex market data and findings into understandable tables, graphs, and written reports, including interpretation of findings. Contribute to the development of market influencing strategies for strategic commodities by interpreting market research and discerning how procurement approaches, financing mechanisms, and information-driven interventions can positively influence supplier behavior. Support Supply Division's work in supplier financing, including engagement with innovative financing mechanisms, such as special contracting (e.g. firm commitments/volume guarantees, prepayments). Support expanded access to financing for suppliers in program countries as part of a 'local market' influencing strategy to improve local markets and/or increase on-continent production. Support the secretariat for SD's Influencing Markets Advisory Group (that coordinates strategic and tactical market shaping efforts within SD).

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have...

Education

A completed first-level university degree in business administration, economics, finance, or other related discipline is required.

Work Experience

A minimum of two (2) years professional work experience in market research and analysis, market dynamics, market shaping, or commercial/structured financing is required.

Experience in the following areas is preferred:

Market research issues relating to health, nutrition, education, sanitation and/or products used in resource-poor settings Market-based approaches to development International business/commercial activities related to procurement and supply Development of demand forecasts, economic/epidemiological models, or other types of projections Working on data analytics and/or business intelligence, including proven experience in collecting, surveying, analyzing and reporting complex data Report writing, presentation and dissemination of information for a broad audience Work experience with UNICEF and/or coordinating with other UN / development agencies.

Languages

Fluency in English is required. Proficiency of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
