This position is located in the Mission Support Centre (MSC) of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS). The Logistics Officers will be based in Mogadishu and report to the Chief, MSC. Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Logistics Officer, will be responsible for the following duties:

• Exercises managerial and supervisory control over all logistics support required to implement UNSOS' mandate.
• Provides effective and timely planning, oversight, management and coordination of logistics support operations
• Develops, prepares, coordinates and monitors the implementation of logistics support plans including logistics forecasting, supply schedules, priorities or requirements, and resolution of urgent operational needs.
• Assists the Chief MSC in the development of policy and procedures for logistics support.
• Acts as the principal liaison between UNSOS and AMISOM/SSF Headquarters for logistics matters and coordinates day-to-day support of logistics operations.
• Under guidance and/or delegation by the Chief ORM/Chief MSC directs a fully integrated unit, in accordance with existing UN directives; provides effective management and successful coordination of logistics support activities of multi-national civilian, military and interdepartmental staff.
• Manages logistics field operations.
• Participates in or leads technical survey missions and verification missions.
• Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs.
• Develops plans and procedures for assessing material, staff, troops and their movements, planning and costing of operational budgets.
• Assumes responsibilities of certifying officer when nominated.
• Mentor new/junior officers.

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in logistics, business administration, public administration, engineering, or other relevant field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in surface and/or air
transport, logistics operations in military, commercial or international organizations, or
related area is required.

Experience in international military or UN peacekeeping operations is desirable.

Experience of Mission Strategic Planning and participation in drafting Mission Support
contributions to Integrated Strategic Framework, Mission Concept and Military/Police
Concept of Operations (CONOPS) is desirable.

Experience in planning and execution of logistics operations or supply chain support services
in military, commercial or an international organization or related areas is desirable.

Experience in providing logistics and supply chain support services in complex, volatile, conflict, or post-conflict environments is desirable. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the positions advertised, fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Assessment
