War Child Canada is a registered Canadian charity based in Toronto that works with war-affected communities to help children reclaim their childhood through access to education, opportunity and justice. War Child Canada has over 20 years of experience working in communities in conflict and post-conflict zones. All work is implemented in direct partnership with local communities, local NGOs and other stakeholders using a child-centered approach. War Child Canada currently works in Afghanistan, Uganda, Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Iraq and Jordan.

Position summary

The Knowledge and Learning Coordinator will support the International Development team in the assessment and knowledge sharing of various programmatic initiatives.

The Coordinator will support on project design and proposal writing through knowledge sharing and management as well as supporting Gender, Disability, and Inclusion sensitive approaches to project design, monitoring and evaluation. The position will also research opportunities and assist in building an understanding of the impact of programming on the lives of girls and women. The position will support the department to strengthen the organization’s approach to overall learning.

Responsibilities

SUPPORT THE PROGRAM QUALITY, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND LEARNING WORK OF THE ORGANIZATION AND PROVIDE TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO FIELD OFFICES

Work with the International Development team to develop and implement Program Quality, Accountability, and Learning plans for War Child Canada’s projects, providing technical insight & development on quantitative and qualitative tools, indicator design, logical frameworks, Means of Verification, and M&E plans

Supporting on organizational indicator data collection and compilation for impact and annual reporting

Provide support on project reporting including verifying progress data, output numbers

Help support the implementation of community feedback mechanisms including the integration of the Child Safeguarding policy and Gender, Disability, and Inclusion-sensitive approaches to accountability and monitoring.

Support the development of organizational templates, program guidance documents and protocols as needed to support data collection, compilation, processing, analyzing, and reporting.

Help facilitate cross-departmental sharing and learning of programming activities

Support War Child Canada staff and partners in improving learning and knowledge sharing mechanisms

Assist in the preparation of funding proposals and help to build capacity in conducting research

Support the Senior PQAL Manager on external working group initiatives to build organizational contributions to technical sectors

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

Post-secondary degree in International Development, Social Sciences, International Relations, Economics or related subject. A post-graduate degree in statistics or research related field an asset.

3+ years of experience in an analytical or evaluative role.

Understanding of Gender, Disability, and Inclusion-sensitive programming and how to integrate it into assessments, evaluations, monitoring, and research projects.

Strong knowledge of Excel. Experience with SPSS or other statistical packages an asset.

Experience with conducting and/or analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, including different sampling methodologies.

Experience on indicator development, proposal writing, logframes, and M&E plans an asset (GAC, USAID, etc.)

Ability to present data and analysis to a wide variety of audiences.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Database design experience an asset.

Experience with Open Data Kit, Kobo Toolbox, and/or other mobile data collection solutions an asset.

Travel Required

Occasional field travel may be required
