Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

In China, UN Women provides technical and financial assistance to innovative programmes and strategies for gender equality and women's empowerment. Economic Empowerment is one of key thematic areas that UN Women China team has been focusing on.

In order to enhance women's economic empowerment in China and work towards rural women's empowerment in the face of climate change, UN Women China has been working on addressing women's vulnerabilities to climate change and empowering them to lead sustainable development efforts. UN Women China is implementing the Gender and Climate Change project in both Qinghai and Hu'nan provinces to respond to the key specific challenges and harness the current global and national momentum and support for women farmers' development.

Besides, in order to address the issues of unpaid care work and domestic work, as well as the violence in the work place, UN Women has been working on the WeCare project to create an enabling environment and demonstrative pilots to support women in the work place.

Duties and Responsibilities

Objectives of the Assignment

Based on the above-mentioned demands, UN Women China Office will hire a junior national consultant to assist with facilitating the implementation of above projects, and the coordination of relevant researches and knowledge products.

Scope of work

Under the supervision of the Programme Analyst, the consultant will work in close collaboration with the WEE team of the UN Women China office and its partners as necessary on the following key tasks: 1. Support the external evaluation and project closure of Qinghai Gender and Climate Change project ;

2. Support the project startup of the Hu'nan Gender and Climate Change project and relevant South-South collebration as needed;

3. Support the coordination with the project partner and research partner for the development of the WeCare project knowledge products;

4. Support the monitoring, reporting, as well as resource mobilization of relevant projects.

The Consultant's work is expected to span from 13 April 2021 to 25 October 2021. The consultant will work at UN Women China office.

  • Project resource mobilization documents (concept notes, proposals, etc. ) for 2nd phase Gender and Climate Change project, based on undergoing project proposal development and resource mobilization activities (GCC project).

  • Coordination material of UN Food System Summit.

  • Project baseline survey progress report for Hu'nan Rural Vertalization Demosntration project (GCC project).

Required Skills and Experience

Education and Experience and skills

  • Master's degree in social science, gender, development, economics, or business management is required;
  • Minimum one year experience in gender issues, especially women's economic empowerment and or social development is required;
  • Prior experience in project implementation is preferred;
  • Strong ablity in writing in both English and Chinese
  • Prior experience working for the UN agencies is a plus.

Payments for this consultancy will be based on the achievement of each deliverable and certification that each has been satisfactorily completed. Payments will not be based on the number of days worked but on the completion of each stated deliverable within the indicated timeframes on satisfactory completion of task.
