Organizational Setting

CSLI is responsible for providing the facilities and sustainable services to the FAO headquarters building and to the FAO Decentralized Offices. It aims to maximise efficiencies and reduce the environmental impact of FAO resulting from operations.

Reporting Lines

The incumbent will report directly to the Senior Facility Management Officer of the FAO Infrastructure Service and collaborate with the Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER) team of CSLI Office.

Technical Focus

The incumbent will be in charge of conducting the annual GHG environmental inventory of FAO, with particular focus on streamlining and enhancing the data collection, reporting and monitoring mechanism, as well as promoting sustainable behaviours at the workplace through the development of awareness raising material and educational campaigns.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Senior Facilities Management Officer, liaise with country offices to assist in the collection and analysis of energy usage and other data for calculating FAO's greenhouse gas emissions (buildings, vehicles and official travel).
  • Assist in developing Greenhouse Gas Footprint feedback reports to FAO country offices; document any data anomalies or new work practices identified during the inventory process, for integration into FAO's Inventory Data Management Plan.
  • Working under supervision, research and prepare responses to queries from colleagues on environmental management issues and contribute to templates, tools, and other support materials to help colleagues worldwide to measure and manage environmental risks and impacts from our operations.
  • Analyse emissions data of Decentralised Offices based on Regions and office size and identify offices that require most assistance with reducing their emissions.
  • Liaise with other UN entities to follow relevant developments and trends for CO2 emissions calculation.
  • Ensure that each Decentralised Offices submits GHG emissions data by a specific deadline.
  • Analyse the collected data and report accordingly to internal and external parties.
  • Support Green Focal Points in Field Offices with implementation of climate neutral measures and advocacy within the Office Management Team.
  • Ensure best practices are shared easily between field offices, and repeated/scaled as applicable with local circumstances
  • Under supervision, develop environmental awareness-raising materials for use in educational campaigns and events that aim to drive energy-saving and other sustainable behaviours at work.
  • Perform other tasks required by the Infrastructure Services.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • University Degree in Energy/Environmental Engineering or Environmental Sciences.
  • 1 year experience with scientific data analysis or report writing in English in the area of environmental sciences.
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of one of the other FAO official languages (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian) for COF.REG; working knowledge of English or one of the other FAO official languages for PSA Subscribers.

Selection Criteria

  • Advanced degree will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to manage, understand and analyse large amount of data related to energy and environment.
  • Knowledge of the calculation framework for GHG emissions inventories and GHG protocol framework.
  • Knowledge of visual analytics and business intelligence software (e.g. Tableau).
  • Ability to write reports and communication documents in English within the environmental sector.
  • Prior experience in working within the UN system is a distinct advantage.
  • Knowledge of Italian is an asset.
