As part of the UNFPA JPO programme overall framework, the JPO will benefit from the following supervision modalities:

  • Structured guidance provided by the supervisor, especially in the beginning of the assignment, with the purpose of gradually increasing the responsibilities of the JPO
  • Establishment of a work plan, with clear key results
  • Effective supervision through knowledge sharing and performance/development feedback throughout the assignment
  • Easy access to the supervisor
  • Participation in Unit/Team/Office meetings to ensure integration and operational effectiveness
  • Guidance and advice in relation to learning and training opportunities within the field of expertise
  • If more than one supervisor; clear agreement of the roles and responsibilities between the relevant parties
  • Annual performance appraisal and development with the supervisor (PAD)

In addition, the following specific supervision arrangements will apply:

  • The JPO will work under the direct supervision of the Innovation Team Leader, while working closely with the Innovation team and other business units, in particular Resource Mobilization Branch and Strategic Partnerships Branch.
  • Participation in UNFPA Induction Course within the first 3 to 6 months of assignment.
  • Use of yearly JPO duty-related travel and training allocation (DTTA), as per the online DTTA guide
  • Other training and learning opportunities, as presented in the JPO Orientation Programme
  • Specific training and learning modalities and opportunities in the receiving office
  • Build partnership with various stakeholders to build consensus on critical policy issues, including SRHR and women and girls’ empowerment; 
  • Support, appraise and prepare innovations projects from ideation, through pilot to scale to accelerate progress for women and girls 
  • Support the partnership engagement for the innovation partnership platform through different modalities (investments, expertise, brainpower collaboration) 
  • Provide quality policy and strategy analysis and produce reports on critical programming issues; 
  • Prepare annual work plan, budgets and facilitate revisions, using the Atlas programme software application; 
  • Facilitate project implementation and monitor projects following UNFPA rules and procedures; 
  • Interact with different partners, advocating for UNFPA´s mandate and country priorities; 
  • Prepare targeted resource mobilization proposals especially targeted to supporting initiatives pertaining to SRHR and women and girls’ empowerment, as well as specific funding opportunities  
  • Anticipating, analyzing, planning for, adapting, and managing future scenarios, opportunities with the innovation portfolio, and the mainstreaming of innovation at UNFPA.  

Supporting the UNFPA Accelerator Fund EQUALIZER, which is a newly established multi-partner financing platform to support innovation as an accelerator to scale up impactful solutions to realize UNFPA Strategic Plan 2022-2025 and three transformative goals; in all its stages, modalities and features. 

Exploring opportunities for partnerships with the private sector, philanthropies, foundations, member states, international financial institutions, academia, civil society and individuals to strengthen alliances in enabling innovation to ensure the rights and choices for women and girls. 

Implementing and updating the Partnership Engagement Strategy for UNFPA Accelerator Fund, which is a working reference document for innovation partnerships and resource mobilization. 

Providing strategic support in identifying and outreaching to potential partners and investors, and engaging with various stakeholders to leverage support for UNFPA Accelerator Fund.  

Actively engaging in UNFPA’s efforts to expand its partnership base within the wider innovation ecosystem and contribute towards an impact-driven ecosystem and supporting events designed to strengthen and expand the partnership base. 

Providing technical support, sharing lessons learned and success stories for innovation partnership portfolio. 

Assisting in contributing to the development of quality reports and communication materials for internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner.  

Executing activities and outputs in line with the needs of the Office of the Executive Director, including support to innovation partnerships portfolio. 

Support anticipating, analyzing, planning for, adapting, and managing future scenarios, opportunities with the innovation portfolio, and the mainstreaming of innovation at UNFPA.  

Facilitate close engagement with business owners to consider all relevant inputs to support the design and implementation of innovative solutions and provide ongoing support to innovators. 

Carrying out any other duties as may be required by the Innovation Team Leader.

  • Mobilizing resources: Analyze information from financial documents in order to create financial records and statistics; develop technical knowledge and an understanding of donors, their priorities and areas of interest, and adapt content and approach of resource mobilization activities to donor and programme interests. 
  • External and internal relations and advocacy for resource mobilization: Understand UNFPA’s overall vision and mission and how it relates to external stakeholders, including donors, the private sector and other priority audiences; and create and seize opportunities to use UNFPA’s unified messaging to speak to priority audiences to increase awareness of issues and support for the organization. 
  • Other corporate tasks: Any other relevant activities/responsibilities as assigned by the Team Leader. 
  • Masters Degree or equivalent degree in social sciences or related fields  
  • At least 2 years of experience in development projects or with specific experience in relation with partnerships, resource mobilization, innovation, sexual and reproductive health and/or Human Rights. Prior experience in developing countries is an asset;  
  • Fluency in English. Ability to write clearly and concisely; 
  • Minimum basic knowledge of Finnish or Swedish languages
  • Knowledge of other working languages of the UN is an asset; 
  • This position is open only to Nationals of Finland
  • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds.
