For more information please visit http://ias.unu.edu Responsibilities The Japan Communications Intern will assist in promoting UNU-IAS and its activities to raise visibility, with a particular focus on target audiences in Japan. As part of the UNU-IAS Communications team, the intern will assist in producing and managing content for the institute’s digital communications activities, including websites and social media platforms. In particular, the intern will support the migration of website content from the existing UNU website content management platform to a new system.Specific responsibilities:• Translate content between Japanese and English, including website stories, event announcements, social media posts, flyers, and other promotional products.• Support migration of Japanese UNU-IAS website content to the new UNU website platform, reviewing content to ensure quality control (e.g., consistent and correct structure, formatting, and application of taxonomy terms).• Assist in managing UNU-IAS social media channels, by maintaining the content calendar, preparing and scheduling posts, sourcing images, identifying relevant keywords and hashtags.• Assist in developing tailored social media approaches for audiences in Japan.• Support market research to develop understanding of target audiences and identify opportunities.• Assist in maintaining and updating the institute’s glossary of technical terms and English–Japanese translations.• Provide in-person support for UNU-IAS events held at UNU headquarters in Tokyo.• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. RequirementsQualifications Education: University studies in one of the following disciplines: communications, journalism, international relations, environmental science, or other relevant subjects is required. Be in their final year of undergraduate study or enrolled in a graduate degree programme or is within the two-year post-graduation (maximum) from either a bachelors’, masters’ or PhD degree programme. Language: Exemplary communication skills (written and oral) in English and Japanese are required; Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage. Stipend Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UNU to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship. The monthly amount of the stipend will be determined for each duty station based on the stipend rates in effect. The stipend will be paid on a monthly basis and part-time internship arrangements are prorated accordingly.Duration of contract: The duration of the internship is 4-6 months.
