ITS Vice Presidency Context:

Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) enables the WBG to achieve its mission of ending extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity in a sustainable way by delivering transformative information and technologies to its staff working in over 150 locations. Our vision is to transform how the Bank Group accomplishes its mission through information and technology. In this fast-paced, ever-changing world, the formulation and implementation of the ITS strategy is an ongoing, iterative process of learning and adaptation developed through extensive consultations with business partners throughout the World Bank Group.

ITS shapes its strategy in response to changing business priorities and leverages new technologies to achieve three high-level business outcomes: business enablement, by providing Bank Group units with innovative digital tools and technologies to transform how they deliver value for their clients; empowerment & effectiveness, by ensuring that all Bank Group staff are connected, able to find information, and productive to accelerate the delivery of development solutions globally; and resilience, by equipping the Bank Group to provide risk-based cybersecurity and robust data protection for a global network and a growing cloud platform.

Implementation of the strategy is guided by three core principles. The first is to deliver solutions for business partners that are customer-centric, innovative, and transformative. The second is to provide the Bank Group with value for money with selective and standard technologies. The third principle is to excel at the basics by providing a high performing, robust, and resilient IT environment for the organization.

The ITS Enterprise Services unit, provides a wide range of technical services: data centers, system administration, database, middleware, cloud, enterprise monitoring and identity and access management.

Role

Enterprise Unix Administrator working with the Systems Engineering team lead.

Responsibilities:

Main responsibility of this position is listed below:

•Provide advanced expertise to assure the effective performance of one or more elements of the enterprise Unix admin service onprem and on the cloud (AWS/Azure)

•Handles the product lifecycle of the Unix infrastructure to assure operational availability; designs and specifies changes for implementation.

•Develop and maintain system documentation, including configuration guides, and standard operating procedures. Direct and be responsible for the implementation effort.

•Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.

•Assess demand for their service or technology area and develop plans to meet future capacity needs and makes recommendations to the manager.

•Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize system performance.

•Collaborate with other teams to architect and implement system upgrades, improvements, and migrations.

•Conduct security audits and implement security measures to protect the system from unauthorized access.

•Participate in audits, as needed, producing necessary documentation, reports, and explanations, and implement corrective and preventive action plans approved by unit managers.

•Report and respond to critical security events and take corrective measures per defined security incident management processes.

•Stay updated with industry standard methodologies and emerging technologies related to UNIX administration.

•Ensure that the defined decommissioning and disposal procedures are followed for all hardware systems and media.

Specific Activities Include:

•Install and maintain up- to-date Operational System software (RHEL) patch levels, firmware, drivers, and related program products using Automation tools.

•Suggest and promote System Changes in accordance with documented SOPs (Standard Operational Procedures)

•Provide continuous monitoring, resolving, and maintenance of the various application servers, systems, and associated peripherals, including adequate follow up on Problem Solving and tracking using the ServiceNow tool.

•Monitor and review use of systems for World Bank access control policy violations in line with World Bank’s guidelines.

•Contributes to delivery of results for client on complex issues.

•Collaborates within team and across boundaries.

•Leverages available data and makes timely decisions.

•Ability and willingness to work, learn and contribute to internationally diverse team environment.

•Take personal responsibility and accountability for timely response to client queries, requests or needs, while working to remove obstacles that may impede execution or overall success.

•Able to present and explain technical information to diverse types of audience (management, users, vendor, and technical staff)

Selection Criteria

•Master's degree with 5 years relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

•Experience with Unix Administration.

•Experience working on AWS and Azure Cloud.

•Experience in automating administrative tasks using Chef, Terraform, RunDeck or similar tools.
