The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the agency for human settlements mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities (www.unhabitat.org).

UN-Habitat Lebanon’s Communications team works with the overall technical team and management to:
- Raise awareness about UN-Habitat’s mandate and focus in Lebanon.
- Position UN-Habitat as an expert on sustainable urbanization and cities in Lebanon – through its normative and operational expertise and experience.
- Establish firm advocacy and media relations, including through potential influencers, in order to enhance knowledge, uptake and understanding of UN-Habitat in Lebanon.
The intern will be under the direct supervision of the UN-Habitat, Lebanon, Communications Assistant and oversight from the Head of Country Programme.

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Lebanon Country Programme internship is for six (6) months.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern.

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the direct supervision of the Communication Assistant and oversight from the Head of Country Programme, the intern will:
- Support the UN-Habitat Lebanon Country Programme in promoting an active social media presence: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and any other platform as advised.
- Monitor social media accounts and sort out messages, report back enquires and propose responses/actions as appropriate.
- Ensure follow-up as appropriate on social media platforms on activities of the UN-Habitat Lebanon Country Programme.
- Assist in communication and information management through e-filing, updating various databases, and other relevant tasks. Assist UN-Habitat Lebanon colleagues in-house on writing stories from field visits, interviewing beneficiaries, responding to social media requests, propose social media campaigns that showcase the work of UN-Habitat.
- Support in updating the UN-Habitat Lebanon webpage through close coordination with the communications team and project focal points.
- Support in drafting a variety of communication documents on behalf of the UN-Habitat Lebanon Country Programme, including web stories, press releases, e-mails, letters, messaging, and outreach material.
- Support development of a filing system of high-quality resolution photos of UN-Habitat work to be used for communication, advocacy, and visibility purposes.
- Provide communication, organization, and logistical support at UN-Habitat projects and events.
- Provide support in monitoring national and international media related to the mandate and work of UN-Habitat.
- Provide assistance in editing, reviewing reports and translations.
- Support in research, writing, and production of reports and publications.
- Support in documenting on-ground project activities through photo and video capturing.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned from time to time. Competencies

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent

Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office);

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred areas of studies:
Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design, Marketing or a closely related field.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (word, excel, power point) and Social Media platforms is required.

Experience in Photography/Video editing & graphic design skills is a plus.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Knowledge of communication tools needed for project visibility and the most effective communication tool used these days is required.

Knowledge of information needed to prepare content for a story and social media post is desirable. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Assessment
