JOB DESCRIPTION RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direct supervision of the Senior Forest Policy Officer and in collaboration with other staff of the IUCN Forest and Grasslands Team, the intern will support the work of The Restoration Initiative and the Global Partnership on Forest and Landscape Restoration (GPFLR).
This will include activities such as doing research and developing analysis on policy and legal topics on forest and landscape restoration, draft internal memos and material to be posted online on IUCN’s channels, providing support for the implementation of international policy and programmatic activities under the GPFLR, assisting in the organisation of workshops, as well as supporting project communications.
SPECIFIC TASKS
The focus of the internship will be on providing support to different tasks with a policy and programmatic focus for the implementation of The Restoration Initiative and the GPFLR workplans.
This assignment will include, but will not be restricted to, the following responsibilities:
• Develop up to 10 PANORAMA solutions focused on policy influencing impact for each of the countries under The Restoration Initiative.
• Support the development of policy impact analysis under The Restoration Initiative.
• Support the communication activities of TRI and GPFLR.
• Assist in advancing fundraising efforts for the GPFLR.
• Draft analytical pieces focused on international policy for the GPFLR
• Assist in the organization of workshops, meetings and event planning;
• Will be required to provide support on a range of tasks as delegated by their Line Manager
WHAT WE OFFER
This internship provides a challenging and interesting opportunity to work in a dynamic international organisation and to gain work experience in the field of EU nature conservation projects. IUCN offers a modest stipend to contribute to living expenses of USD 1,500 a month. REQUIREMENTS • Applicants must have student status (undergraduate or graduate) and be enrolled at a university for the entire duration of the internship
• Studying towards a relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a focus on law, policy, environmental science or other similar degrees
• Affinity with the vision and mission of IUCN and a strong interest in and good understanding of international environmental policy issues connected to the land use sector
• Complete fluency in the English language, including excellent demonstrated English writing skills; good level of written and spoken French is an asset but not required
• Sound understanding of information technology, with experience in applying Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) as a minimum skill set
• Proven analytical, conceptual, organization, multitasking, and problem-solving skills
• Detail- and outcome-oriented
• Ability to work independently and on multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of outputs
• Highly motivated to learn and develop new skills, keen to bring in own ideas
• A team player with a strong interest to work in an international environment
