Background

In Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH), in line with its 2021-2025 Country Programme, UNDP work focuses on sustainable and inclusive growth, people-centred governance and social cohesion. The UNDP Country Programme outcomes correspond to three outcomes of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2021-2025 (outcome 1 on resilient, sustainable and inclusive growth, outcome 4 on accountable and transparent governance systems, and outcome 5 on social cohesion and trust). UNDP is fully committed to support BIH with regards to its Agenda 2030 commitments as well as the European Union (EU) accession process.

The Energy and Environment Sector (EE) of the UNDP CO implements projects in the field of Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction geared towards decreasing economic, social and territorial disparities and sustainable management of environmental and energy resources, and green jobs creation through coordinated approach by national and subnational actors. All interventions are realized in close collaboration with relevant government stakeholders, other UN agencies, multi-lateral and bi-lateral donors, private sector and civil society.


Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Sector Leader, the Intern will be provided an opportunity to learn about the Climate Change, Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction in general but also business administration processes, organization of meetings and events and stakeholders engagement.

The Intern is expected to perform the following tasks in the EE Sector Team:

Conduct research and analysis, monitoring and tracking of developments in the area of Climate Change, Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction, including news updates; preparation of briefings and concept notes;Support and contribute to the reporting and M&E, including notetaking of key meetings, data collection and analysis; archiving; drafting, editing and fact-checking reports; assisting the development of infographics; drafting and publication of resource materials;Support engagement with key partners (ministries, civil society, private sector, etc.) including meetings with partners; mapping of partner activities; and participation in external events; working on proposals developments and researching new financing;Engage in a range of activities to support the effective and efficient implementation of the communication initiatives;Provide assistance to the organization of internal and external events; support team integration and coordination;Assist in other related duties as required.

Required Skills and Experience

Applicants to the UNDP Internship Programme must at the time of the application meet one of the following requirements:

Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a Master’s programme)Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level)Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in a) and b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one year of graduationBe enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program

Skills

Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English and official languages of Bosnia and HerzegovinaStrong computer skills, particularly in MS Office applications (spreadsheets, data processing and web-editing).

Terms and Conditions

Since 1 January 2020 UNDP interns are provided a monthly stipend to cover costs associated to the internship. The stipend amount varies from duty station to duty station. The amount can also vary depending if a selected candidate receives financial support from a nominating institution, related institution or governmentUNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;UNDP only accepts interns for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months;Interns are expected to work full time but flexibility is allowed for their education programme;The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
