Context
LHR is a non-religious, non-political, non-profit humanitarian organization with the mission of providing immediate crisis response, as well as long term relief, for the most vulnerable groups in a dignified, respectful and empowering manner.
In response to the growing number of asylum seekers and recognised refugees living in precarious living conditions in Athens, many of them homeless, LHR is focusing on its emergency response programme to direct outreach to at-risk populations in Athens.
Position Summary
As one of four/five members of LHR’s streetwork team, the Intercultural Mediator will be involved directly in outreach, translation, contact with beneficiaries and follow-up. The ICM will engage in conversations with people LHR is supporting, thus determining their needs and the extent to which LHR can address them, contacting them to exchange information and work from home. He will be supported in the daily tasks by the Emergency Response Officer, Social Worker and Coordinator.
Key responsibilities
Participate in daily Streetwork activities/outreach, engaging directly with people supported and providing translation when necessary
Support Emergency Response Officer/ Coordinator and Social Worker with the case management
Provide crucial information to people supported, such as where to get legal or medical support and ensure that they access information in a clear and concise way
Determine NFI needs and help providing those items
Lead the monthly distribution of NFIs
Share protection concerns with the Emergency Response Coordinator
Support with the translation of the information leaflets
Support the Emergency Response Project Coordinator in managing stocks of NFIs and other items
Support the Emergency Response Project Coordinator in project-related research
Represent LHR positively and professionally through all interactions with internal and external stakeholders
Responsible for the Farsi phone device, share messages with the team and make sure that all the messages are answered
Required
Minimum age 25 years
Experience working with refugees and/or asylum seekers in Greece for at least six months in similar position
Fluency in English (Greek would be an advantage)
Fluency (oral, and written) in Farsi and/or Dari
Proven ability to work well in a high pressure environment, in a professional way
Strong communication skills;
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Valid work visa for the Schengen area
Willingness to work on an irregular schedule
Ability to work independently
Physically fit and able to walk long distances during the shift
Ability to adapt to short notice changes, schedules and emergencies

First aid qualification
Experience in streetwork and/or working with vulnerable populations
Candidates who are already in Greece are preferred
Valid driving license
