Purpose of the Position:

The purpose of this post is to provide support in the administration of the UNICC’s Virtualization infrastructure as well as customer dedicated infrastructures.

Objectives of the Programme:

The objectives of the Centre, as stated by its mandate, are to provide information and communication technology (ICT) services (including training) on an inter-organizational basis.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Team Lead, Infrastructure Operations team, and under the guidance of the Head, Infrastructure and Platform Operations Unit within Operations Division and in close collaboration with the Infrastructure, Platform, Networking, Data Center Operations support teams.

The incumbent will perform the following duties:

Provide operational support in the administration of the UNICC’s Virtual Infrastructure as well as UNICC’s customers dedicated systems, including but not limited to:

  • Provide technical support to the virtualization infrastructures and related components
  • Monitor, analyse, troubleshoot and optimize the performance of supported systems
  • Create and maintain detailed technical and graphical documentation as needed
  • Participate in the development/update of tools and scripts to improve the automation of the supported systems
  • Assist with the resolution of incidents and problems, service requests as per service level metrics and targets; escalate problems to the appropriate technical support team as per escalation procedure
  • Participate in the deployment of new projects for UNICC and customers
  • Participate in service coverage arrangement such as standy-by duty services and other support coverage arrangements, if and when required
  • The incumbent may be required to act as Officer-In-Charge of the Unit, during the absence of the Team Leader
  • Provide other ad hoc support either within your team or in other teams as required – this includes the participation in special projects or support to service delivery for short period of time on a part-time or full time basis upon request from the senior management

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience in information technology or related areas, including in operating and maintaining enterprise Virtualization Infrastructure and related services in a complex heterogenous environment
  • Excellent experience administering and troubleshooting market leader hypervisor solutions (i.e. VMware, Hyper-V, OVM/KVM, etc.) and related products
  • Good Knowledge of Hyper Converged Infrastructures
  • Good understamding amd knowledge of Linux and MS Windows Operating Systems
  • Good understanding and knowledge of networking technologies
  • Working knowledge in shell scripting and automation tools
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision
  • Customer-centric approach to delivery and problem solving

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of vSphere replication, automation, and networking solutions
  • Knowledge of storage and backup technologies and their integration with the mentioned Hypervisors is an advantage
  • Good presentation skills and ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical audience
  • Experience with service reporting and business analytics
  • Good knowledge of service management methodology

Education:

Essential:

  • Successful completion of secondary school education or its equivalent, supplemented by specialized training in IT

Desirable:

  • IT diploma
  • Industry related certifications

Languages:

  • English: Expert knowledge is required
  • Other language: Spanish, Intermediate knowledge is desirable

Eligibility:

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country. Compensation:

Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate):

  • Brindisi, Italy: EUR 33,889
  • Valencia, Spain: EUR 44,839
