A well-functioning health information system ensures the production, analysis, dissemination and use of reliable and timely information on health determinants, health systems performance and health status. Papua New Guinea has deployed an online National Health Information System (eNHIS) in the country. However, the eNHIS is deficient in nutrition indicators with only 2 included presently. There is need for the inclusion of a full set of nutrition indicators into the eNHIS in the future. The integration of nutrition indicators into the Government health information system is only possible if this is demonstrated on of how it works that is only possible through piloting.

In 2021, the UNICEF PNG office will implement in two provinces (Hela and National Capital District) a pilot in nutrition service delivery at health facility and community levels. The programme will work closely with both central and sub national levels in design and roll out of the programme. Data collection and reporting tools will be developed and piloted in the two geographic areas with results of the same used to inform and influence final versions of the tools. To operationalize the monitoring and evaluation component of the pilot, there is need for dedicated human resource to support and lead this piece of work.

How can you make a difference?

Working under the direct supervision of the Chief health and Nutrition, the consultant will;

i) To support the development of data collection and reporting tools and materials.

ii) To support the piloting of data collection and reporting tools to monitor and track progress of program

implementation.

Work Assignment

  • Support with the design and development of data collection and reporting tools.
  • Support with data collection, compilation, analysis and reporting.
  • Prepare monthly brief of consolidated data on Direct Nutrition Interventions.
  • Review and update of nutrition information management tools and materials.
  • Prepare quarterly dashboards of progress.
  • Facilitate planning meetings and consultations with government.
  • Facilitate working sessions with health care workers.
  • Conduct review of data monthly and feedback to the provinces.
  • Undertake field visits to provide on job coaching/orientation and or training of front-line health workers and PHA staff

  • Qualification/Requirements
    • Bachelors - University degree in information technology, computer science, statistics, nutrition, public health, nursing or any other relevant field of study.
    • Minimum 2 years directly relevant work experience in nutrition, analysis, and data management.
    • Experience with information systems, statistical analysis including the use of relevant software.
    • Fluency required in English.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Willingness to travel and work in field environments
    • Candidate must be a national of PNG.
