IDB Invest Corporate Strategy & Planning Officer

Background: We are searching for a highly skilled team member to participate in the preparation of the IDB Invest Strategy, the multi-year Business Plans, as well as other business and corporate strategies, action plans, and monitoring and reporting efforts. You will apply analytical problem solving and systemic thinking to solve strategic questions and generate foresight, insight, and realistic options to enable strategic decision-making.

The Team: The Strategic Planning and Knowledge Division provides the backbone to articulate and deploy strategic priorities across the Group. At its core, the function creates new value for the organization through well-defined objectives: (i) providing leadership in the development of corporate, institutional, and country strategy, including assessment of frontier issues; (ii) directly contributing to individual business units by working with them to develop and implement the strategic direction provided by IDB Invest core strategic documents (e.g., business plan, country strategies); (iii) adding new value by coordinating different parts of the organization: realizing synergies between business units, encouraging the sharing of best practices or providing centralized shared services (e.g., planning support); (iv) adopting the role of corporate navigator; identifying interdependencies and enabling strategic decision-making; (v) leading IDB Invest’s efforts to become a knowledge driven institution with a focus on internal knowledge management; (vi) coordinating the identification, mapping, generation, recording, retention and dissemination of knowledge across the organization; (vii) articulating and generating practical country-focused knowledge.

The Corporate Strategy & Planning Officer will report to the Division Chief under the Strategy and Development Department.

What you will do:

Support the coordination, design, and execution of the strategy and IDB Invest’s multi-year Business Plans and its annual updates. Monitor the progress towards reaching its objectives and other corporate targets, contributing to annual and monthly monitoring reports. Support and when appropriate, coordinate the development of action plans and corporate reports that translate business plan priorities into specific priorities for the organizations. Support and when appropriate, coordinate specific corporate initiatives (e.g. field presence strategy, SME strategy). Contribute to the ongoing process improvement of the strategic planning and management process documenting best practices and sharing across the IDBG. Provide support in facilitating cross-department conversations about emergent strategic opportunities or potential issues. Disseminate information on the strategy development process or specific strategic content. Contribute to the development of new or revised strategic planning tools, methodologies, procedures, and policies that allows for better implementation and monitoring of the project portfolios. Develop and implement methodologies for identifying and overcoming main development constraints for the private sector in the LAC region Prepare/lead multi-sector country-specific analytical inputs to be used in the preparation of Country Strategy Process documents and to support in guiding and focusing its implementation.

What you will need:

Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in business administration, public policy, development studies, economics, political science or other relevant field.

Experience: At least 3+ years of relevant professional experience in implementing and completing a diverse array of strategy and planning services, preferably in an international environment. Skills for working with data/statistics. Understanding of client needs and challenges, of different country/regional areas, market idiosyncrasies, and drivers of change in Latin America and the Caribbean. Proven solid experience in a similar role in a consulting firm or bank would be desirable. Candidates should possess a clear understanding of the operational work of the IDB Invest or similar multilateral institution as well as an understanding of the operational frameworks of public sector in multilateral institutions.

Languages: Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish required; knowledge of Portuguese and/or French is a plus.
