Background Information - Pakistan
UNOPS Pakistan (Project Office) is part of the South Asia Multi Country Office in the Asia Region. UNOPS commenced operations in Pakistan in 1999 and significantly up-scaled activities from 2005 onwards to support populations affected by and vulnerable to earthquakes. In 2010, UNOPS opened a permanent office in Islamabad to support the Government of Pakistan and other partners to undertake humanitarian and reconstruction services, following the most devastating flood in the nation’s history. We are operating in KP, Sindh and Punjab and have field offices in Peshawar, Karachi, Umerkot and D.I. Khan.
Supported strategically by a regional operational hub and UNOPS headquarters in Copenhagen and within the overarching framework of the ONE UN Programme, UNOPS Pakistan continues to deliver projects across the country under its core delivery practices of sustainable infrastructure, sustainable procurement, and sustainable project management.
With a steady growth of the project portfolio in recent years and a new strategic direction, UNOPS in Pakistan is currently implementing projects in the following thematic areas: Green and Clean energy; Rule of Law; Health , WASH, Procurement; and HR services.
Functional Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the ICT Associate, the intern will be able to develop their expertise in ICT management, network administration and application management. They will provide support on hardware familiarisation and maintenance, software applications, file management/maintenance, LAN/WAN systems as well as support the development of a technical manual.

Participate in the documentation and maintenance of all computers, mobile input/output (I/O) devices, softwares and ensuring compliance with registration and upgrades.
Support the effective functioning (installation, operation, and maintenance) of all UNOPS hardware equipment and acquiring hardware supplies.
Perform specific technical functions as requested by the Supervisor, including changing of hardware electronic components (disks, memories, network wiring, power sources, etc.) and routine repairs.
Install commercial and in-house developed software and related upgrades and anti-virus programs on a timely basis.
Perform minor repairs on hardware equipment, as required.
Engage in preventive maintenance of ICT Equipment regularly.
Provide advice on project implementation on all activities involving ICT.
Opportunity to learn and provide support on efficient network administration and application management services
Provide assistance in the maintenance of the Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) systems to ensure that Computing hardware and equipment support documents, data files and cloud storage resources
Provide support to the Installation, upgrading, and maintenance of LAN/WAN systems, including applications used in the system.
Assist in the management and maintenance of equipment and applications associated with video conferencing systems and applications.
Ensure UNOPS desktops and network resources are protected from malicious virus attacks and work closely with the ICT associate to deploy countermeasures in the event of attacks.
Participate in testing and installation of telecommunications hardware.

Provide support to personnel on hardware familiarisation and maintenance, software applications and cloud data management and maintenance.
Under the guidance of the ICT Associate, develop and coordinate for the production of Technical Instruction Documents and Standard Operating Procedures for the secure usage of computing and mobile devices, as well as the training of personnel.
Education/Experience/Language requirements1. Academic qualifications
A first-level university degree (e.g. Master’s/ Bachelor's) in Information Sciences, Information Technology, Computer Sciences, or other related fields is required.
2. Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience. Applicants should have graduated from the above stated fields within three (3) years prior to the application date of the internship.2. Language Skills
Fluency in oral and written English is required.
