Qualifications:

  • A university degree in medicine “preferable in psychiatry” or master’s degree of Psychology.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in implementing MHPSS activities.
  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel, and internet)
  • Strong experience with monitoring tools and systems.
  • Demonstrate experience with different donors’ compliance and reporting
  • Understanding of humanitarian operations principles, standards and best practices
  • Experience of training and capacity building.
  • Ability to write clear and well-argued.

Job Function and responsibilities

Function

The Position of the MHPSS officer will be divided into two functions.

· Implementing the Help the Helpers – Peer support program for ERC volunteers in collaboration with the ICRC MHPSS team, designed to improve the volunteer’s psychosocial wellbeing and acquire basic psychological support skills. (80%)

· Psychosocial evaluation and follow up of repatriated children (20 %)

Main Responsibilities

Within the frame of the Help the Helpers program and under the supervision of the Head of the MHPSS Unit and in collaboration with the ICRC MHPSS team, the MHPSS officer is responsible for:

  • Participating in defining a strategy to establish a Psychosocial Support component for volunteers through Help the Helpers peer support program
  • Implementing the peer support program with a special focus on North Sinai and Ismailia areas
  • Identifying one focal point for each branch to carry out peer support
  • Planning and carrying out trainings, facilitating capacity building activities for identified peer supporters and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Helping in the setup of peer support system in each branch including the setup of regular group sessions
  • Supervision, coaching and monthly follow up of peer supporters from each branch
  • Developing training materials and tools adapted for local contexts
  • Gathering and analysing data, using it to plan and manage projects and systems of MHPSS
  • Supporting the ERC in establishing a support system for volunteers after critical incidents
  • Providing a first referral level for technical questions arising from peer supporters in the operational level and re-directing these to the health and care department for further assistance as needed
  • Promoting and coordinating the development and integration of MHPSS services in disaster management and health in emergency.

Within the frame of the follow up of repatriated children

  • Conducting regular post reunification home visits to evaluate the psychosocial wellbeing of the children and their families
  • Ensuring regular telephone contact with the children and their families for updates and guidance
  • Proposing adequate intervention and referrals when needed
  • Reporting to the RFL team in both the ERC and the ICRC on the state of the children and their families
  • Participating in meetings with the RFL team to discuss home visits and assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records and consistently ensure the confidentiality of information Plan and implement strategic changes to improve service delivery.

In more general terms, the MHPSS officer will be asked to:

  • Provide technical assistance and oversight and acting as a knowledge broker in the areas of needs assessment, program design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of mental health and psychosocial support interventions.
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms, expressing complex and technical terminology and concepts in an understandable manner.
  • Establish a direct and functional relationship with the ICRC MHPSS team
