Job description

The GIZ module \"Applied Water Resources Management in the Lake Chad Basin\" is part of the regional development cooperation program \"Sustainable Water Management in the Lake Chad Basin\", which is implemented together with the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR). It is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The aim is to advise the Lake Chad Basin Commission so that it can competently carry out its statutory tasks in projects with a transboundary impact and independently support its member states in overcoming climate change-related challenges in the Lake Chad Basin in particular. The module is implemented in Chad with close involvement of the member countries Cameroon, Nigeria, Niger, Libya and the Central African Republic.

Your tasks

You are responsible for the successful implementation of the project \"Applied Water Resources Management in the Lake Chad Basin\" including the related project financial volume in close coordination with our client. You will manage the project from a strategic, commercial and administrative point of view and ensure impact-oriented monitoring and reporting. You will establish and maintain an open, trusting and technically sound cooperation with our client BMZ (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) and strategically relevant national and international actors and cooperation partners. You will be responsible for the selection, induction and ongoing training of staff for your project, and will lead the project staff in accordance with the company's understanding of leadership, thereby ensuring an appreciative leadership culture. You contribute to the development of the company's portfolio You will be responsible for the professional external presentation of the project. You are in charge of the program \"Sustainable Water Management in the Lake Chad Basin\" with currently 2 modules of Technical Cooperation. Close coordination with the BGR module \"Sustainable Management of Groundwater Resources in the Lake Chad Basin\".

Your profile

Completed university studies in natural sciences or comparable courses of study with relevance to development policy Several years of experience in development cooperation, especially in the management and leadership of complex projects as well as in projects of German or international development cooperation in cooperation countries Experience in project and financial management High level of intercultural empathy and a confident manner in international contexts vis-à-vis actors from politics, business and civil society Strong understanding of political processes as well as good design, consulting and communication skills Ability to think and act strategically and analytically or to grasp things quickly and have an eye for the essentials Commitment, team spirit, reliability, diplomatic skills, gender competence and intercultural understanding Business fluent in French and English, knowledge of German is an advantage
