It is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The aim is to advise the Lake Chad Basin Commission so that it can competently carry out its statutory tasks in projects with a transboundary impact and independently support its member states in overcoming climate change-related challenges in the Lake Chad Basin in particular. The module is implemented in Chad with close involvement of the member countries Cameroon, Nigeria, Niger, Libya and the Central African Republic.

The security situation is critically tense. It requires continuous monitoring and special security risk mitigation measures for GIZ staff. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. The freedom of movement is severely restricted. It is not possible for life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment.
