Context:

The Donor Relations Division (DRD) has the institutional responsibility for donor liaison, private sector partnership building, unearmarked funds mobilization, fundraising campaigns and guidance on donor reporting.

The Division hosts a Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Unit which is responsible for the development and implementation of IOM’s Private Sector Partnership Strategy which seeks to enhance IOM’s capacity to develop mid to high value partnerships with corporations and philanthropic foundations. The PSP Unit supports partnership-building with the private sector across Headquarters, regional and country offices. The PSP Unit establishes and coordinates

IOM’s due diligence process, builds staff capacity in private sector partnership-building, supports the negotiation of global partnership agreements, serves as the institutional focal point for innovation and engagement with companies, foundations and individuals as well as mobilizes resources from the private sector. Finally, the PSP Unit works closely with USA for IOM located in Washington DC, ensuring fundraising strategies are aligned.

Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Donor Relations Division, the successful candidate will:

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of IOM’s 2021-23 Private Sector Partnership (PSP) Strategy and Action Plan.
  2. Play an integral role in the global PSP goal and strategy to raise between $10-15 million annually from the private sector.
  3. Lead the development and implementation of a resource mobilization strategy for IOM’s recently created Islamic Philanthropy Fund.
  4. Identify, promote and facilitate engagement by IOM’s leadership in major global and regional private sector events such as the UN Global Compact, World Economic Forum, Concordia Summit, etc.
  5. Plan, support and coordinate the successful implementation of global individual giving campaigns.
  6. Support the selection and nomination process of global, regional and country level Goodwill Ambassadors as well as the application of related Goodwill Ambassador guidelines.
  7. Enable and advocate for greater engagement of IOM Regional and Country offices and USA for IOM in priority markets with the private sector through the development and roll-out of regular training activities and learning products that fulfill capacity building needs.
  8. Support and facilitate knowledge sharing, collaboration and cross fertilization between Headquarters, Regional and Country Offices, USA for IOM through networks, workshops and webinars.
  9. Oversee the application of IOM’s due diligence policy through the timely implementation of risk assessments and the coordination of due diligence decisions for prospective private sector partnerships.
  10. Lead the development of tools, processes, procedures and guidelines to ensure IOM has the governance structures in place to enable private sector engagement.
  11. Act as focal point for private sector partnerships in international working groups, UN task forces, and internal working groups and committees.
  12. Support the review and clearance of legal agreements with private sector partners for global partnerships.
  13. Manage the administrative and operational resources of the PSP Unit in accordance with IOM’s rules and regulations.
  14. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

• Master’s degree in Business Administration, Social Sciences, Political Science, International Relations, Management, Development Studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with seven years of relevant professional experience; or,

• University degree in the above fields with nine years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

• At least seven years of experience in private sector fundraising in a not-for-profit or international organization with proven success in mobilizing financial resources from corporations and philanthropic foundations;

• At least four years of progressively responsible experience in communicating and engaging with governments, including government donors, UN agencies and other external stakeholders on a wide range of institutional issues and programmatic areas;

• Extensive and recent experience in private sector fundraising management, relevant processes, procedures, and techniques to enable successful resource mobilization across a variety of contexts (digital fundraising, emergency fundraising, high value donor fundraising);

• Working level experience in using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform specifically for fundraising and partnership management with a focus on managing opportunities with Private Sector partners;

• Experience in starting up Private Sector Partnership programmes in new markets;

• Knowledge and experience in online communication including social media and digital fundraising;

• In-depth understanding of the sensitivities, challenges and opportunities of Islamic social financing;

• Experience in working with National Committees such as USA for IOM.

Skills

• Ability to speak effectively to a broad range of private sector audiences;

• Confirmed knowledge of Islamic social financing;

• Solid understanding of key concepts such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), corporate sustainability, environmental and social governance (ESG) and shared value;

• In-depth knowledge of the role of the private sector in sustainable development, humanitarian response, and relevant migration related issues;

• In-depth knowledge of the role of the private sector in sustainable development and humanitarian response;

• Ability to identify and seize opportunities for shared value or resource-based partnerships;

• In-depth knowledge of the ways foundations and businesses engage and jointly programme with the UN;

• Knowledge of branding and marketing.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

External applicants for all positions in the Professional category are required to be proficient in English and have at least a working knowledge of one additional UN Language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian or Chinese).

For all applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
