The role of the Head of Business Development (HoBD) is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic systems-thinker, to lead Save the Children Canada into a new strategy period, embracing traditional and non-traditional resource mobilizing strategies to meet the increased need of children globally. Specifically, aligned with an organizational theory of change which uses a variety of vehicles, including programming, advocacy, research, partnership and public engagement to attain child rights and meet children’s needs, the HoBD will collaborate across SC Canada and Save the Children International to develop plans, partnerships and relationships to increase resources towards our mission. The HoBD will lead business development related change management processes, which align to an evolving direction of the organization and the industry. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker, who is able to collaborate with others to deliver a strategy, and who has experience and knowledge of working with institutional donors (such as Global Affairs Canada, Development Banks), philanthropic donors (corporates, foundations) and interest or experience of applying innovative financing. Most of all, the candidate will be creative, curious, knowledgeable of the future evolution of the international assistance sector and have the ability to nurture partnerships. This position will require periodic travel in Ontario and abroad (one – two times a year).

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

· Based on organizational strategic goals, develop account strategies, define opportunities and execute on plans to obtain new business development opportunities (partnership, programmatic, advocacy, research) from institutional donors (government, development banks), while contributing to a joint fundraising strategy, which leverages private and institutional sources of funding in support of the Save the Children’s mission. **

· Lead on the achievement of business development targets through the direction of and collaboration with relevant teams and colleagues executing on business development (BD) functions across the organization.

· Represent Save the Children Canada in Save the Children International New Business Development working groups, with responsibility to ensure Canadian contribution to the SCI strategic Global Funding Framework.

· Aligned with our organizational strategic goals and funding targets, develop and contribute to account strategies to generate new business. **

· Lead the opportunity identification and generation process for institutional accounts and support opportunity generation for non-institutional funding streams. **

· Maintain the knowledge related to institutional funding mechanisms, operational policies and compliance requirements. **

· Maintain platforms within our movement to share information about institutional donors and their funding mechanisms (e.g. AMS, Donor Library). **

· Aligned with organizational strategic goals and funding targets, develop institutional funding projections for relevant accounts.

· Manage the performance of the institutional funding pipeline overlay, and prepare monthly/quarterly reports in close collaboration with the Senior Financial Analyst, Business Development & Compliance.

· In coordination with the Head of Award Management, proactively manage the match liability for institutional funding opportunities.

· Design and maintain effective and efficient processes, tools and guidelines for opportunity and proposal development phases in the project management cycle.

· Conduct capacity building with relevant teams on processes, tools and guidelines to ensure effective ways of working.

· Oversight and sign off on Save the Children Canada’s costs on proposals to ensure competitiveness and cost recovery.

· Provide quality assurance and final sign off on all proposals prior to submission to institutional donors.

· Lead the Business Development team in the operational execution to support strategic organizational goals.

· In compliance with HR policies and the Collective Agreement, lead employees using a performance management process that includes performance goal setting, timely feedback, and recognition.

· Model behaviours consistent with Save the Children values, actively creating an organizational culture that reflects values.

Qualifications (include but are not limited to):

· Bachelor degree in a related field. An MBA qualification would be considered an asset. Equivalent years of relevant experience working in a similar position in lieu of post-graduate degree would be considered.

· Minimum 10 years in the non-profit, international development, or a similar field such as philanthropy, corporate social responsibility, or academia. **

· 3 years of managerial experience.

· Breaks down siloed working, with change Management capabilities including identifying overt and covert work cultures. **

· Aligns and builds partnership to reflect global shifts and opportunities.

· Gathers intelligence from external networks to influence the medium- and longer-term impact of SCC’s work.

· Experience with non-traditional types and modalities of funding (e.g. innovative financing) is an asset.

· Experience with non-traditional sources of funds that are trending towards growth for CSOs (e.g. development banks) are an asset.

· Experience with philanthropic (corporate, foundation) fundraising, including an understanding of partnership expectations and ways of working. **

· Experience with Global Affairs Canada, including knowledge of GAC’s requirements and standards, including Results-Based Management.

· Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships across cultural and organizational boundaries with internal and external stakeholders, and managing through influence.

· Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills. **

· Experience using change management approaches. **

· Superior English writing skills; proficiency in spoken French considered an asset.

· Demonstrated experience engaging with donors to develop partnership opportunities. **

· Demonstrated project financial management experience. **

· Knowledge of revenue budgets and forecasts. **

· Knowledge of child rights programming in areas such as Health, Education, Child Protection, Livelihoods, and Gender Equality.

· Demonstrates strong commitment to Save the Children’s Mission, Vision and Values.

· Must adhere to Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding policy and protocols.

· Must Complete Police Vulnerable Sector Screening.
