Background

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Chief Security Adviser (CSA), Deputy Security Advisor (DSA) the Guard Force Assistant will provide assistance in the implementation of the approved access control measures, implementation of all security measures relating to safety and security of staff, properties and assets within the One UN House. The selected candidate will be expected to work in uniform

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Guard Force Assistant will be responsible for the verification of the identity of persons and vehicles to ensure that only authorized persons and vehicles gain access to the premises.
  • The Guard Force Assistant will be responsible for coordinating search/screening of vehicles and persons by physical/technical means so that no illegal substance, IEDs, contraband or any article that could be detrimental to persons and property are allowed into the One UN House.
  • The Guard Force Assistant will be responsible for supervision of screening of vehicles and inspection of persons exiting the UN premises as preventive measure to deter persons removing UN property from the premises without proper authority.
  • The Guard Force Assistant will be responsible as team leader for the maintenance of high standard of team performance on shift duties in order to ensure smooth security operation.
  • The Guard Force Assistant will be responsible for conveying security orders/instructions received from the CSA/DCSA or assigned LSA to the security guards, compile and submit daily shifts reports.
  • The Guard Force Assistant will be responsible for coordinating security function with the contractual security at the post, monitor their performance and advise on the UN security procedure as necessary and manage post rotation within the shift and advise the CSA/DCSA
  • The Guard Force Assistant will be responsible for ensuring that posts are manned 24/7 and no post is vacated without being properly relieved.
  • The Guard Force Assistant will be responsible for conducting foot patrols in and around UN premises to make sure that the premises are secured.
  • The Guard Force Assistant will be responsible for liaising with CSA/DCSA to ensure proper response to emergencies, such as fire, hostile attack etc.
  • The Guard Force Assistant will be responsible for coordinating the checking the validity and authenticity of UN Identification cards at entry points, monitoring the movement of visitors within the UN premises.
  • The Guard Force Assistant will be responsible for assisting staff members and visitors during emergency situations such as sickness, fire, attacks etc

The impact of result will be the strict implementation of access control measures and the elimination of theft of properties within the One UN House

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • High School Certificate
  • University Degree is desirable but is not a requirement

Experience:

  • Minimum of four (4) years relevant experience in security or related field of work.
  • Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable.
  • Previous experience of security guard supervision and training or relevant similar experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of HF and VHF radio operation.
  • Solid computer skills (MS word and Excel)

Fluency in English

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
