Chemonics seeks an external communications manager to support the development and execution of external communications and outreach efforts related to Chemonics’ global health and supply chain work. This is an exciting opportunity to design strategic communications initiatives, in consultation with the department director, executive leaders, and other team members, including supporting messaging, strategy development, and stakeholder engagement.
The manager leads department initiatives under the mentorship and oversight of a director, understands and promotes the team’s and the company's goals, and writes high-quality content for Chemonics' and external outlets. Additionally, this position will be responsible for media monitoring and media relations, serving as a corporate spokesperson as required. Responsibilities include:
Lead communication and outreach initiatives and planning under the mentorship of a director, working closely with executive leadership, support departments, technical practices, and others throughout the company
Develop a strong understanding of departmental, divisional, and corporate goals and strategies, and ensure they are integrated into communications and outreach activities
Establish networks and linkages with industry stakeholders, news media, donors, and other strategic audiences, as appropriate, to promote Chemonics’ global health and supply chain work
Guide the preparation of informational items for publication and circulation in the mass media, such as press releases, media advisories, feature articles, Q&A’s, press conferences, events, and other company public relations communications (internal and external)
Create opportunities to connect industry experts and practitioners through the hosting of events or organizing the participation of Chemonics’ leaders in events, such as panels, round-tables, seminars, and presentations
Identify and help coordinate Chemonics’ participation in global development forums related to health and supply chains to showcase technical expertise and technical contributions to global development
Translate complex technical information into user-friendly and new formats
Produce high-quality documents, brochures, powerpoint presentations and other collateral materials for senior leadership and external-facing communications and outreach activities
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in communications, marketing, international development, or related field preferred
Minimum three years of relevant experience in the communications industry, with demonstrated experience in international communications, supporting strategic communications and marketing programs, and/or public relations
Proven ability to craft information messages in various formats including success stories, website content, social media content and more
Demonstrated integrity, independent thinking, judgment, and respect for others, with strong interpersonal communications skills to establish and maintain strong working relationships with executives, senior technical experts, and a variety of staff around the world
Ability to connect individual communications activities or products to higher-level strategies and goals
Experience in international development and understanding and knowledge of USAID and other major donors highly desired
Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Photoshop; working knowledge of WordPress preferred
Willingness to travel and work abroad a minimum of 4-8 weeks per year
Demonstrated leadership, versatility and integrity
Fluency in English required; proficiency in a secondary language preferred
