The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of ten months. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Bangui, Central African Republic.

Welthungerhife has been chosen to be Co-lead along with World Food Programme (WFP) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for coordinating activities of the food security cluster in Central African Republic. As Expert Food Security Cluster Coordination you will assume overall responsibility for co-leadership and work closely with other key members of the Food Security Cluster; including National, Provincial or Local Governments, OCHA, UNICEF and all other cluster members. You will identify gaps in the sector’s current coverage and advocate to address these gaps amongst humanitarian actors on behalf the affected population, carry out capacity mapping of all current and potential Food Security Cluster actors and promote and support training of humanitarian personnel and capacity building of humanitarian partners.

Your responsibilities

  • Identifying learning and training opportunities for Food Security Cluster cluster members and working in increasing capacity in preparedness and response within the cluster
  • Ensuring that cluster participants are aware of relevant policy guidelines, technical standards and relevant commitments that the Government/concerned authorities have undertaken under international human rights law
  • Leading updating of the Food Security Cluster work plan, and co-ordinating the harmonization of response activities, ensuring that activities prevent overlap and duplication and thus maximize resources
  • Ensuring that inter-agency response strategy for Food Security Cluster reflects key findings from needs assessments, identifying gaps, and formulating a sector-wide interagency response plan, considering the cross-cutting areas from other sectors or clusters
  • Ensuring that information is shared amongst cluster members, and that information from other sectors and clusters is made available to cluster members in order to improve planning, integration and implementation
  • Ensuring representation of the Food Security Cluster in all relevant external meetings and collect/share information as relevant
  • Participating actively with the Cluster Lead Agency to global humanitairian planning activities such as Humanitarian Needs Overviews (HNOs) and Humanitarian Response Plan (HRPs)

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree in food security, agriculture, nutrition or a related field
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in an emergency context
  • Several years of project management experience in nutrition and cluster coordination
  • ECHO and WFP donor experience is an added value
  • Coordination and organisational skills, including ability to work under pressure and a high level of mental and physical resilience
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to the cluster members/partners sites, field locations and stakeholder meetings, including areas with volatile local conditions
  • Excellent spoken and written French and English
