Equity and loan operations project cycle Consultant (LAB/INV)

IDB Lab is looking for a dynamic and client-oriented individual to support the Chief Investment Officer and the Investment Unit in the project management of the operations in headquarters.

Background:

IDB Lab is the innovation laboratory of the Inter-American Development Bank Group. It mobilizes financing, knowledge, and connections to support entrepreneurs to catalyze innovation that can drive inclusion in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). For over 25 years, IDB Lab has been using of a range of reimbursable financing instruments, from equity investments and loan operations in early-stage companies with high impact and high growth models to investments in venture capital (VC) funds, for which IDB Lab has been an instrumental anchor investor helping to shape the VC industry in LAC. IDB Lab also leverages third party financing to achieve its developmental goals, including environment and climate-oriented funds aligned with its strategies.

The Team:

The Investment Unit (INV) at IDB Lab is the unit responsible for originating and managing the portfolio of reimbursable operations. INV has a systemic role of filling key funding gaps, bridging key connections in different fields (e.g. public and private) and mobilizing key ecosystem resources to support specific ventures with outstanding socioeconomic or environmental impact potential. IDB Lab adds relevant value to those ventures during their business consolidation and expansion and fosters their impact towards solving some of the most pressing development and inclusion challenges of different sectors in LAC (Fintech, Edtech, Healthtech, Agtech/Biotech, etc).

What you’ll do:

  • Provide project management of INV’s annual approval cycle providing guidance to the team in headquarters and the country offices on the preparation, scheduling, and processing of IDB Lab operations, from the origination of opportunities to the deployment of first disbursements. Examples of the support needed may include:

    Pre-pipeline:

    • Keep track of opportunities in pre-pipeline by reaching out to the Investment Officers on a regular basis.
    • Provide support to the drafting, proofreading, processing in Salesforce and other platforms, between others, of the opportunities to be presented to IDB Lab’s management.
    • Support INV team with workflow related to legal, integrity, impact, ESG analysis, etc. through the investment cycle.
    • Lead the execution of the Investment Committee and the minutes production to ensure quality and timely results.
    • Lead the organization and coordination of the submission and circulation of Investment Memoranda and other strategic documents to the Board, as well as, monitoring the good evolution of the operations from submission to approval.

      Approval:

      • Communicate the CIO and team of the Board’s approval of operations.
      • Support INV team with workflow related to the signing and disbursement of funds.
      • Transition the supervision of the operations approved to portfolio management team.
        • Work closely with CIO in the tracking of the operational targets to be achieved.
        • Work closely with CIO proactively assisting in scheduling meetings, payments and other administrative and communication tasks.

          What you’ll need:

          • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
          • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB Group.
          • Education: Bachelor’s degree (in areas related to Administration, Finance, Business, or related field).
          • Experience: at least three years of relevant experience. Work experience in top-tier startups, venture capital and private equity funds, or M&A, with LAC exposure, is a strong plus.
          • Languages: Proficiency in English and Spanish, both oral and written.

            Core and Technical Competencies:

            • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
            • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams and Microsoft Outlook.
            • Ability to handle multiple tasks and confidential information with utmost discretion is a must.
            • Team player, inclusive, innovative and creative, client-oriented, results-driven, with strong communication skills.

              Opportunity Summary:

              • Type of contract and modality: Consultant Full time.
              • Length of contract: 12 months (with the possibility of renewal).
              • Location: IDB Headquarters in Washington, DC, USA.
