Overview:

SB OverSeas is a non-profit organization working in Belgium and in Lebanon, assisting those escaping conflict through education and empowerment programs all while providing aid and raising awareness of the humanitarian crisis. SB OverSeas is looking for interns to join us in the Internship Programme for 2020. These internship positions are catered to individuals who are eager to develop their teaching skills as well as put into practice additional skills or interests in the field of empowerment development.

The internship includes an Arabic language course that helps elevate the interns ability to communicate in classrooms, immerse quicker into the community, and gain Arabic proficiency, a vital skill in the international field. These language courses take place twice a week and are catered to their specific level. Language certificates are provided.

Primary tasks

Empowerment Development responsibilities:

  • Promote empowerment programmes to the women and youth to encourage participation

  • Materialize empowerment programme through concrete partnerships with companies and organizations that can provide resources for the courses (e.g sewing machines for sewing classes)

  • Assist Centre Manager in enhancing and expanding already established programmes to include more women and provide more classes

  • Generate a weekly and monthly status report to Centre Manager indicating success rate and progression of work (e.g number of women attending empowerment programmes and partnerships established)

Teaching responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver lessons in English for the women and youth classes

  • Submit weekly lesson plans for each of the classes

  • Teach English to centre staff and tutoring children in need of extra support

  • Support extra-curricular activities for children, some taking place on the weekends

  • Attend training sessions and team meetings

  • Report to ESL Officer for teaching evaluations and supervision

Secondary tasks

  • Support staff with extra tasks such as organizing donations, planning celebrations, doing outreach and distribution

  • Collaborate with communications team to generate content for social media outlets regarding empowerment programme events and updates

  • Foster at least one new partnership and platform per month

  • Develop a certified programme for the SB Empowerment Project

Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience working with refugees

  • High-level working English

  • Experience working with at-risk women

  • Multi-national and humanitarian experience

  • Experience in developing projects

  • Personal Attributes:

o Highly motivated, energetic, and capable of independent work

o Well organised

o Confident and direct when representing SB Overseas in official fora

o Displays strong personal initiative
