The Health Support Organisation (THESO) is a leading 501 (3) (C) registered South Sudanese based international nongovernmental, non-profit organisation dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering in Low Middle Income Countries (LMICs). Our mission is to implement evidence-based, culturally Sensitive, innovative projects promoting health, according to perceived public health needs and priorities as understood through quality research. THESO 2030 strategy is contributing to achieving global strategies 2030 Sustainable Development Goals 3, 4 and 6 set targets and beyond in LMICs. To establish well-performing sustainable health, education, and WASH systems in developing countries, THESO is working with governments, UN Agencies and other stakeholders to achieves resilience and sustained outcomes through continuous improvement of the four sectors of Health, Nutrition, Education, WASH and Research.

Context and Background

THESO has been working in South Sudan since mid 2008, and currently runs 4 field programme offices across Africa. THESO strategic plan (2021 – 2025) includes expansion of its programme to other countries, deepen its working relationship with host governments and partners at all levels, develop a gradual exit strategy to allow the smooth transfer of specific facilities to government, and support affected people with emergency response, recovery and resilience programmes. The primary focus of THESO South Sudan programme is integrated healthcare, Education, WASH, and community based and health facilities-based management of malnutrition. The special emphasis is given to maternal and child health care services.

Education has a vital role to play in developing the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that enable people to contribute to and benefit from an inclusive and sustainable future. Learning to form clear and purposeful goals, work with others with different perspectives, find untapped opportunities and identify multiple solutions to big problems will be essential in the coming years. South Sudan education needs to aim to do more than prepare young people for the world of work; it needs to equip students with the skills they need to become active, responsible and engaged citizens

In the face of an increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world, education can make the difference as to whether people embrace the challenges they are confronted with or whether they are defeated by them. And in an era characterised by a new explosion of scientific knowledge and a growing array of complex societal problems, it is appropriate that South Sudan curricula should continue to evolve, perhaps in radical ways.

THESO is seeking to recruit a seasoned education system blueprint expert with profound knowledge of British, Singapore and Finnish school systems to facilitate massive improvement in South Sudan education system. THESO is committed to working with national ministry of education science and technology in helping every learner develop as a whole person, fulfil his or her potential and help shape a shared future built on the well-being of individuals, communities and the planet. The purpose of the Education Advisor position is to be responsible for technical education system blueprint development, strategic direction, and quality assurance support to ministry of education to liberates South Sudan from the shambles of education, and empowers the citizens to act for the betterment of the country

Key Responsibilities

Lead, identify, develop, implement, Technical Assistance (TA) in the education sector. Lead and contribute to the development of education sector blueprint, strategy and policy in South Sudan. Work within general policies, principles and goals, working directly with clients.

Strategy and Planning

Lead and provide information and analyses towards the development of blueprint, strategies for the education sector in South Sudan in consultation with relevant government agencies, donors, UN Agencies and other stakeholders.

Contribute substantial information and analyses to interdepartmental working groups on the education sector.

Support national, regional and local governments to share their policy design and curriculum design experiences related to the learning framework

Students, teachers, school leaders, and parents to share practices and experiences as concrete examples of using THESO Learning Compass 2030

Experts and researchers to help strengthen the links between evidence-based policy and practice, especially on the constructs of the framework

Local communities, professional associations and industries, including representatives of teachers' unions and the business sector, to share practices of supporting student learning and creating appropriate learning environments

International communities and organisations to contribute to THESO Education 2030 dialogue in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4.7 and other relevant initiatives.

Project Development and Administration

**

Lead the development, processing and administration of TA projects in the education sector blueprint.

Lead and identify opportunities for THESO assistance projects in the education sector in South Sudan.

Lead and integrate THESO’s policies and guidelines in the design and implementation of education sector projects. Provide substantial advice to executing agencies on project preparation.

Knowledge Sharing

Lead, participate in and contribute to internal and external training and conferences on the education sector and other activities for advocacy, dissemination and knowledge building.

Staff Supervision

Take the role of team leader and supervise the work of team members.

Supervise the performance of reporting staff, providing clear direction and regular monitoring and feedback on performance.

Ensure the on-going learning and development of reporting staff.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Master’s Degree or equivalent in education or other related fields. University degree with specialized experience on Education in similar organization/s, may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

Suitability to undertake the responsibilities mentioned above at the required level

At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in the education sector and in project administration

Able to perform work independently in own field of specialisation, equipped with knowledge and experience of multiple disciplines

Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

International experience working in development in several countries
